Chiara Condi is joining me today to talk about women’s entrepreneurship, our wellbeing and also about her excellent new podcast ‘The Other Half’ where she interviews male leaders about gender equality.

We will talk about the changes and progress in women’s entrepreneurship. also the importance of wellbeing, how it is viewed, and the different aspects that we can more easily incorporate into our life.

Chiara will also tell us about the reaction she is getting from the male leaders she has interviewed about gener equality, their ideas and their plans for improving this.

Chiara Condi is an activist, speaker and expert raising awareness about gender equality and diversity. She consults corporations on their diversity goals based on her extensive experience in the subject. She inspires awareness to change. Chiara has launched a podcast, The Other Half which interviews male leaders and CEOs around the world on the subject of gender equality in their personal and professional lives. Chiara is a regular voice in the media and she is an internationally renowned speaker on the topics of gender equality, the future of work and building a more inclusive world for women. In 2017 she was awarded the Woman of Influence Prize (Business and Hope) for the year in France for her work on the subject.

Chiara is the founder of Led By HER, a nonprofit that works on women’s entrepreneurship, innovation and women’s rights. In partnership with business schools and corporations, the organization delivers an entrepreneurship program to help women who have suffered from violence rebuild their lives through entrepreneurship. With a community of over 250 volunteers the organization offers courses, individual mentoring, and hackathon events co-organized with the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Led By HER recently launched FoundHERLab, a digital platform coded by Capgemini, to mobilize companies worldwide around women’s entrepreneurship by offering pro-bono skill based volunteering to women entrepreneurs locally.

Prior to founding Led By HER Chiara worked at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to maximize the gender impact of the Bank’s investments. She graduated from Harvard and has a masters from Sciences Po/LSE.

My guest today is Dame Jane Roberts has an extensive background in local government and in health. Councillor for the London Borough of Camden for 16 years, council leader from 2000 until 2005, Jane was appointed DBE in 2004 for services to local government. Chair of the thinktank NLGN (New Local Government Network). Jane started her career as a medical doctor and worked for many years as a hospital consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Jane Roberts DBE is Research Fellow in Public Leadership at The Open University Business School. A councillor for 16 years at the London Borough of Camden, she was Leader of the Council from 2000 to 2005. Jane has served in a range of non-executive roles including as Chair of the Councillors Commission for the Department of Communities and Local Government, a member of the Remuneration Board at the Welsh Assembly and Chair of New Local Government Network. Appointed DBE 2004. Professionally, she is a medical doctor and is an Honorary Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with experience of senior healthcare management in the NHS. Jane has published a number of academic articles in paediatrics, psychiatry and politics. She co-edited ‘The Politics of Attachment’ (1996) with Sebastian Kraemer and is the author of ‘Losing Political Office’ (2017).

My guest today is Lesley Clarke OBE, District Councillor, Charter Trustee, Mayor, County Councillor, Council Leader and Chairman of WLGS, the society which has created the Suffrage Pioneers Project to celebrate 100 years of universal suffrage.

Lesley Clarke OBE – First elected to Wycombe District Council in 1991, a Charter Trustee for the town, Mayor in 1994/95 and County Councillor since 2001. Leader of Wycombe District Council in 2003 for 8 years, Lesley became Chairman in 2014 (Wycombe is the 4th largest Disctrict Council in England). Chairman of the Women’s Local Government Society in 2007 which started the project Suffrage Pioneers in 2015 to find 100 Suffragists to celebrate the 100 years of universal suffrage – In 2018 WLGS achieved their gaol! Awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2013.

My guest today is Gina Kirkham, a former police officer of the year, awarded several commendations for bravery, courage and compassion, who has totally changed direction in her career to become a successful and very amusing author.

Gina Kirkham began her career in front-line policing as a single parent in her thirties. Her first posting was to Wallasey Police Station, Wirral. During her time with Merseyside Police she was awarded several commendations for bravery, courage and compassion, and in 2000 she became Police Officer of the Year for her services to the people of Merseyside. Her debut novel, the humorous HANDCUFFS, TRUNCHEON AND A POLYESTER THONG, was published in May 2017 by Urbane Publications.
