This is the final episode of the semester! In this week's episode, we will be joined by Marinda Taylor! Marinda is a Registered Dietitian and teaches two nutrition classes at BYU-Idaho. She will share with you her journey to becoming a dietitian. We are also going to dive deeper into topics related to nutrition through the life cycle and child nutrition.
If you enjoyed taking NUTR 150 and are thinking about taking more nutrition classes, in the Timeout with the TAs segment, the TAs will be sharing with you a summary of the other nutrition classes offered at BYU-Idaho.
In this week's episode, we will be exploring the progression of food and the food industry across time. We will learn how what impact the development of the food industry has had on food availability and the change in the types of food choices people make in the United States and across the world. We will discuss how making wise food choices, from the abundant food available to consumers, can help promote healthy eating pattern and lifestyle and ultimately reduce risk for developing disease later in life. In Timeout with the TAs, the TAs will discuss mindful Eating tips.
In this week's episode, Amanda Christensen joins us on the show to help us evaluate fad diets. Have you ever seen a fad diet advertised online or social media? Or heard from a friend or family member about a new diet they are trying out for two weeks? Fad diets are very popular and many individuals try them out with hopes of a quick fix. In this episode, Amanda will help us dig deeper into how to spot the red flags of fad diets. We will also discuss the benefits of choosing to have a healthy eating pattern that is sustainable over a lifetime vs. trying to make a quick fix by following a fad diet.
In this week's episode, Susan Clark joins us on the show! Susan is an adjunct faculty teaching at BYU-Idaho and also works as a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg. She will be talking about why she became a dietitian, her work experience and why she enjoys being a registered dietitian. Also, the TAs will be sharing with you their favorite RDs to follow on Instagram.
In this week's episode, the topic is evaluating dietary supplements! There are so many supplement products making the industry a billion dollar industry. As consumers we need to be cautious when it comes to dietary supplements and the claims they make and not believe everything we read. To help you be a more informed consumer, we will be discussing more about the facts and fiction of supplements.
In this week's episode, the guest being interviewed is Aaron Stalker, a faculty member in the Animal and Food Science department at BYU-Idaho. Aaron will be comparing human nutrition to animal nutrition, including the similarities and differences of the digestive system, the macronutrient requirements, and more. He also shares with us the research he conducted on cattle to determine the best type of feed. He discusses grass fed vs. grain fed cattle and the sustainability of meat production.
In this week's episode, the guest being interviewed is Jeff Hamblin. Jeff will be sharing with you how he became inspired to become a chef, what culinary school was like, the importance of family meal times and the role lipids have in enhancing the flavor and texture of food.
In this week's episode, the guest being interviewed is Laura Robinson. Laura is a registered dietitian, who has worked in a variety of areas within the field of dietetics. She will be talking about her path to become a dietitian and sharing the experience she and her husband had when her husband was diagnosed with the digestive disorder, ulcerative colitis. The TAs will also be sharing with you what they wish they knew when they were first starting college!
In this week's episode, the guest being interviewed is Alyssa Charrier. Alyssa is a faculty member at BYU-Idaho in the Animal and Food Science Department. She is also is a molecular geneticists. She will be talking about her path to become a molecular geneticists and sharing her knowledge and expertise in the field of genetics. The TAs will also be sharing with you one of their favorite snack recipes!
In this week's episode, the guest being interviewed is Candace Clark. Candace Clark is a food scientist that works at Idahoan Foods. She will be talking about what a food scientist it, where they can work, what she does at her job, and much more!
