  • Ep. 6/13/2021 - Expert Guest: The Crisis of Homelessness and How to Fix It
    NO WAY HOME
    The Crisis of Homelessness and
How to Fix it With Intelligence and Humanity
    Co-Written by Wayne Winegarden
In the new book, NO WAY HOME: The Crisis of Homelessness and How to Fix it with Intelligence and Humanity, Policy Economist, Wayne Winegarden and his fellow authors examine the causes of homelessness with a focus on unaffordable housing, poverty, mental illness, substance addiction, and legal reform. It examines the state and local policy environment to determine ways in which housing policy, social service programs, and employment opportunities interact to exacerbate, perpetuate, or reduce homelessness.
CALL 516-735-5468 or e-mail Sandy to schedule interviews with Wayne Winegarden.
In San Diego, not far from the gates of the fantasy world at Disneyland, tent cities lining the freeways remind us of an ugly reality. Homeless individuals are slowing rail traffic between Sacramento and the Bay Area and swarming subway trains in Los Angeles in search of a place to sleep when they're not languishing on Skid Row. Drug use among the homeless is plaguing communities, with discarded needles threatening children playing at public parks. And every day across California, thousands of homeless youth who lack safe and stable housing struggle to stay in school, to perform well academically, and to form meaningful connections with their teachers and peers... and that was BEFORE the Coronavirus lockdown of schools all over America.
In NO WAY HOME, you'll learn that:
California's homeless problem differs from the rest of the U.S. While homelessness went up in the country in 2020, homelessness in the U.S. had been declining for many years even while the problem was continually worsening in the U.S.
California's homeless crisis is caused by the state's economic and policy decisions, reinforced by unhelpful legal precedents.
The major economic causes are the array of policies (zoning regulations, California Environmental Quality Act, environmental policies) that make California an unaffordable place to live. The lack of affordability pushes too many Californians to the edge, unable to withstand an adverse life or economic event that people in other states could weather.
Legal rulings are creating a de facto right to sleep on the street. Policy changes like Prop. 47, which turned larceny under $950 into a misdemeanor not a felony, enables the people who are homeless due to problems with substance abuse to finance their addictions

  • Ep. 6/6/2021 - BGE presents: Dr. Erwin Lutzer
TOPIC 3: The Equality Act is Thinly Veiled Inequality
Intro: In the United States of America, who could be against equality? No one wants to wear a T-shirt that says I’m proud to be a bigot, or I’m against equality. So, why is there such a groundswell of opposition to the Equality Act that passed the House and is headed to the Senate? Joining us in this debate is Dr. Erwin Lutzer, senior pastor of the historic Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years.
    Suggested Q&A:
Q: What’s wrong with equality? Isn’t equality what America was built on and strives for?
A: This bill is actually one of inequality.
That word equality seems so innocuous. Today it is applied to every cause imaginable; This bill, with its expansive rights given to the LGBTQ and trans community would infringe on the rights of others in so many ways.
If you have a daughter, would you want her to share the same locker room and shower with a man who says he identifies as a woman? The bottom line, when there is a collision of rights, the LBGTQ and trans individuals would supersede the rights of others. I see no equality there.
Q: What are other threats you perceive in this bill?
A: It is a serious assault on religious freedom. It will strip Christian churches and faith based schools and ministries of the right to hire people who share the same faith and values as the institution. In point of fact, it means that Churches and Christian ministries might have to actually hire people who are hostile to the beliefs and practices of the organization.
Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer is Pastor Emeritus of The Moody Church where he served as the Senior Pastor for 36 years. He is author of many books including his latest, “We Will Not Be Silenced: Responding Courageously to Our Culture's Assault on Christianity.”

  • Ep. 5/16/2021 - BGE presents: Orit Hodarkovsky-I Got Vaxxed Apparel.
    NEW PUBLIC SAFETY AWARENESS
    CAMPAIGN TO LAUNCH
TO BOOST CONFIDENCE IN COVID-19 VACCINE

    CLOTHING CAMPAIGN HOPES TO HELP
    HARD-HIT & UNDERSERVED
COMMUNITIES RECOVER FROM IMPACT OF CORONAVIRUS

PUBLIUS SPECIAL GUEST: Orit Hodarkovsky, is a New York professional who launched the grassroots campaign called, I Got Vaxxed Apparel.
A new public awareness campaign is being launched to help educate Americans on the importance of the vaccinations and combat conspiracy theories surrounding the safety of COVID-19 vaccine.
Orit Hodarkovsky, a New Yorker who witnessed first-hand the scourge that COVID-19 has on underserved communities, launched I Got Vaxxed Apparel, to help spread the word about the safety of the new vaccinations.   With recent reports showing vaccine scepticism, and misinformation about the vaccine’s side effects on social media, Orit seeks to reassure public confidence in the immunization while helping communities in need.
Proceeds from I Got Vaxxed Apparel will be given to the regions hardest-hit by COVID-19 both across the United States and globally.    The organization will partner with local heroes providing them with shirts, hats, and other trendy clothing to help support the largest vaccination effort in a century.
The following statement was released by Orit, Founder of I Got Vaxxed Apparel:
“Our front-line heroes and early recipients of the vaccine are key to growing public support for the vaccination.  After learning that many of these heroes are getting nothing but a vaccine card or a sticker, I thought that we needed something better to show just how many of us are taking the vaccine and helping get society back to ‘normal.’   With this new public awareness campaign and charitable effort, I hope to bring people together behind this effort and help those who were devastated by the toll of the coronavirus,” said Orit Hodarovsky, Founder, I Got Vaxxed Apparel.
