- Jesus understood the hearts of men
Nicodemus was a respected teacher among his peoplewhy did he visit Jesus at night?- the point is that he DID go to see Jesus, and thus acknowledged the Lord's message
He did not recognized Jesus as the Incarnate God, but did acknowledge the miracles Jesus preformed as His being sent from GodJesus did not directly answer the question Nicodemus asked, but Jesus gave him the answer he needed.. Jesus explained that Nicodemus needed to be born againNicodemus took Jesus' answer literally because people who are not born again of the Spirit can not receive the message (teaching) of the spirit.. reference 1 Corinthians 2:14Jesus stated to be born of Water and Spirit - People often misunderstand that to be a literal interpretation.. it is not
- water often refers to the Word (Ephesians 5:25-26, 1 Peter:23, James 1:18)
water if often referenced as the Holy Spirit (John 7:38-9)- The confusion lies in the translation of the word "and" -- it could also be translated as "even" .... "born of water, even the spirit"
My personal beliefs lay with water "even" spirit.. as baptism with water is symbolic of the repentance of sins, similar to a proselyte baptism as the washing away of sin.. also because born of the spirit is repeated elsewhere+John the Baptist's Disciples became jealous that people were leaving them to be baptized by Jesus- describe betrayal, jealousy
John the Baptist stated by Jesus to be the 'greatest man ever born of woman' (Matthew 11:11)'always always lifted Jesus (put him first).. and never praised himself (as the Apostle John did as well)Jesus said: "And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life." (John 3:14-15 -emphasis mine)- explain how 'everyone' knows John 3:16, but few know the verses just before... how sad 😢
"bronze snake" refers to the time that God punished the Israelites for complaining against God and Moses, so God punished them with fiery serpents (some translate 'poisonous') ... and they became ill..- When the Israelites cried again to be saved, God told Moses to make a brass serpent place it on a staff, and hold it up.. those who looked upon it would be healed (Numbers 21:4-9) -- repentence
Another of my favorite memory verses by John the Baptist: "He [Jesus] must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less" (John 3:30 - emphasis mine)"...God gives Jesus the Spirit without Limit" (John 3:34")Repeating theme, core of Christianity, thus important.. share with those you love.. for if you truly love them, you will see them saved:- "And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment." (John 3:36 -- emphasis mine)
