On COI #85, Kyle and Will react to the first face-to-face summit between Biden administration officials and their Chinese counterparts, held last week in Anchorage, Alaska. Secretary of State Tony Blinken opened the talks with a litany of accusations against Beijing, turning the first chance at real diplomacy into a show of saber-rattling and grandstanding. The Chinese officials responded in kind. 

The US intelligence community issued yet another report alleging Russia, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela and Lebanese Hezbollah attempted to "influence" the 2020 presidential race. Like previous charges of election-meddling, the report cited little to no evidence to back up its assertions, which are nonetheless likely to justify another round of sanctions on Moscow. 

Biden officials finally made some mention of US ties with North Korea, noting outreach had been tried by the American side. Pyongyang has since responded, insisting it will not deal with Washington until the US drops its "hostile policies," namely provocative joint military drills held regularly with South Korea. Both Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin reiterated demands for North Korea to disarm, picking up right where the Trump administration left off. 

US forces continue to occupy oil fields in Syria, including 90 percent of the crude resources in the country's northeast, according to the Syrian oil minister, who said the continued occupation is designed to strangle Syria's economy. Several hundred US troops are deployed alongside Kurdish proxies in the northeast, and recent reporting suggests they have no plans to leave anytime soon.
