  • Episode 793: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Jake Paul Preview Show

A big week for hardcore boxing.

We saw WBO welterweight champ Brian Norman knock out Jin Sasaki. Is he the best guy at the division now that Jaron "Boots" Ennis has moved up in weight?

Then, we talk about Francisco Rodriguez defeating Galal Yafai. Rodriguez is a lower-weight legend who has been underrated, while Yafai, a 2020 British Olympic gold medalist, is in career limbo.

Callum Walsh cut, but wins his fight against Elias Espadas. Welterweight Vernon Brown knocked out Gor Yeritsyan, handing the Armenian fighter his second loss in less than 12 months.

The Top Rank card saw Vito Mielnicki Jr win in a hometown fight, but the story of the card was Jahi Tucker defeating Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson. Tucker is a capital G Guy and probably the prospect of the year?

Also, Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford press tour has started.

    This week....

Liam Paro faces Jonathan Navarro in the middle of the week from Australia.

On Friday, Deontay Wilder will face Tyrrell Herndon. The fight is on PPV.com and features Deon Nicholson and Nico Hernandez on the undercard.

On Friday on ESPN+. Christian Mbilli will fight Maciej Sulecki. This is a good fight. Undercard notables are Moreno Fendero and Wyatt Sanford.

On Saturday, the event of the week is Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on pay-per-view.

The co-feature is unified cruiserweight titleholder Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez facing Yuniel Dorticos.

A strong undercard consists of a welterweight showdown between Avious Griffin-Julian Rodriguez, a lightweight bout between Floyd Schofield-Tevin Farmer, 10 rounds, the welterweight return of Raul Curiel, a women's lightweight bout between Holly Holm and Yolanda Vega.

The depth continues deeper on the card with junior bantamweight John "Scrappy" Ramirez, a sink-or-swim fight for Victor Morales vs. Rene Alvarado, a bantamweight step-up fight between Alexander Gueche vs. Vincent Avina,
Welterweight Joel Iriarte and junior flyweight Naomy Valle are also featured.

On Saturday on Triller TV, Jean Pascal will fight Michal Cieslak, and cruiserweight Marcus Browne will be in the co-feature.

  • Episode 791: Richardson Hitchins Calls Out Devin Haney, Brian Norman Jr-Jin Sasaki Preview.

A very slow week of boxing occurred with the highlights being Richardson Hitchins stopping George Kambosos Jr, which would lead to a call-out of former two-division titleholder Devin Haney. Andy Cruz stopped Hironori Mishiro. This win makes Cruz mandatory for Raymond Muratalla's IBF title.

Friday night, two things to talk about: A card in Ghana went on until the early morning with Andrew Tabiti getting a stoppage win, and LeAnna Cruz had to get off the deck to win her fight against Regina Chavez. Israel Mercado upset Branden Pizarro in the co-feature.

Looking ahead to Thursday, WBO welterweight titleholder Brian Norman Jr faces Jin Sasaki. Is this a Fight of the Year or a mismatch? We discuss.

From Thursday to Saturday, the WBC Grand Prix will enter the second round. This has provided some very exciting bouts so far.

Friday on DAZN, David Stevens vs. Petr Khamukov will meet in a crossroads match.

Saturday on DAZN, Galal Yafai vs. Francisco Rodriguez will take center stage with Peter McGrail in the co-feature.

Saturday on ESPN+, Vito Mielnicki Jr. will face Kamil Gardzielik, other notables on the card, Jahi Tucker vs Lorenzo Simpson, which is a great fight, Brandun Lee, and Jamar Talley.

Saturday on UFC Fight Pass, Callum Walsh will face Elias Espadas in a very good match-up we will explain. Also, Cain Sandoval, "Right Hook Roxy" Verduzco, and Umar Dzambekov round out the undercard.

  • Results: Junto Nakatani, 2025 Boxer of the Year?

Notes: Next month I will list my mid-year awards. Nakatani and Opetaia with two wins in 2025, enter the conversation, despite David Benavidez and Jaron “Boots” Ennis having bigger wins. I talk about this in the audio segment.

    Junto Nakatani TKO6 Ryosuke Nishida

Nakatani continues to stop champions and top contenders. Nakatani is a three-division titleholder. He is a clear pound-for-pound fighter. Nakatani has two wins and is firmly in the mix to be the “Fighter of the Year”.

    Notable undercard results:

    Tenshin Nasukawa UD10 Victor Santillan

I was wrong, Tenshin is a talent. I saw him as a gimmick at first. I was wrong. He is competing against high-level fighters, early in his career. Consider me a fan.

    In Australia…

    Jai Opetaia KO5 Claudio Squeo

Opetaia gets his second win of 2025. Both wins are knockouts. Opetaia, a cruiserweight titleholder, could find himself in the “Fighter of the Year” conversation if he were to fight and beat Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez. Easier said than done.

  • Episode 790: Abdullah Mason's Stock Is Up, While Keyshawn Davis Has A Bad Weekend w/ @PullmansGym

A lot of fights happened this week, with great boxing coach John Pullman

First, Keyshawn Davis missed weight. His bout with Edwin De Los Santos was canceled. Abdullah Mason replaced him as the headliner. After Keyshawn's brother, Kelvin Davis, lost to Nahir Albright, a backstage incident occurred involving Keyshawn and his youngest brother, Keon.

What do we take away from this weekend?

Mason got a stoppage in his first headlining fight, and Keyshawn made a lot of bad decisions.

Other stuff, middleweight Troy Isley won a tough fight, so did Tiger Johnson, and Keon Davis had a good body shot KO.

In the U.K., heavyweight Fabio Wardley had a come-from-behind knockout victory over Justis Huni. Wardley was down on the cards at the time of the stoppage.

I will cover Albert Ramirez's highlight-reel KO and notable Eye of the Tiger bouts from Thursday, Salita Promotions had a card where Brandon Moore defeated Stanley Wright, Franchon Crews-Dezurn got a close majority decision win, and Wendy Toussaint upset Joseph Hicks Jr.

IBF women's lightweight Beatriz Ferreira made her second title defense on DAZN as well.

Looking ahead to this week on Saturday, Richardson Hitchins will make his first IBF junior welterweight title defense against George Kambosos Jr. The undercard features a lightweight IBF eliminator between Andy Cruz-Hironori Mishiro, junior welterweight Ernesto Mercado, heavyweight Teremoana Jr, junior middleweight Nishant Dev, and Zaquin Moses are featured on the undercard.

Nonito Donaire fights Andres Campos for the interim WBA bantamweight title.
