What is it about serial killers that gets us so hot? In this episode we dig into the enneagrammic psychology and cultural underpinnings of serial killers. The connection between serial killing, death, and the sexual instinct. Why the victims are usually objects of sexual desire. Why is serial killing primarily a male phenomenon? How repressed conservative culture plays a role in encouraging masculine insecurity and a compartmentalization of sexual desires. Normalizing kink and how that may be contributing to the decline of serial killers. We wrap up with incels and the similar factors behind it.
At long last, a super thicc Part 2 of our deep dive into the inner lines of connection. For a refresher check out BHE 034 for Part 1. We get right back into it starting with 7 (10:08), 1 (40:16), 4 (58:53), and finally 2 (85:08). One last thing, fans of David’s delicious voice should let their appreciation spill forth into a review on the Apple podcast app. And check out John’s new site johnluckovich.com for his enneagram coaching and very tasteful nudes.
Basking in the afterglow from a very hormonal heart-opening weekend with friends, we wanted to explore how we could access more of ‘the zone’ in our daily lives through meditation. (The zone was so intense David passed away and is no longer with us). But first, we talk about what it feels like to be more centered and in touch with ourselves from the perspective of our types. What is meditation and why is it important? How to get started with just 5 minutes. Doing a body sensations scan and breathing to sense more of yourself. The different types of meditation. Wrapping up with a guided meditation with John starting at (34:02).
Cutting deeper and twisting the knife again with Courtney. We’re back with more O.R. insights and stabbings. We look into how to capture trifix essential qualities. The difficulty of attachment types feeling their types and essential qualities. What is essence? How each O.R. affect is an attempt to return to an experience of essence. And how personality tries to do and achieve essence through instinctual drives by trying to manage the O.R. wound. We’ve got a map of consciousness here folks. We mapped this out for our types. 4 (27:15), 8 (38:18), 6 (43:52), 3 (50:23), and last but not least 9 (71:58).
Oh does it hurt so good. Continuing where we left off with Courtney bringing the object relations pain, starting with type 5. Then the attachment types 3 (17:05), 6 (37:43), and 9 (60:25). We get into an interesting theory on why attachment types are more common. Why attachment types have a disconnected use of their home center. And how attachment O.R. is a false individuation. Eat up pain piggies, and we’ll be back with more O.R. stabbings in Part 3.

Prepare to have your minds blown this week as we’ve been graced by the object relations pain queen Courtney Smith. She joins us to share clear new insights on object relations that will rearrange your perspective on why each type is the way they are. We examine the core wound as interpreted by each type in early childhood. What are ‘misses’ in the nurturing and protecting functions and how each type identifies with them? In this episode we cover the core object relations wounds of frustration types 7, 1, 4. Then rejection types 8 and 2. Part 2 of this series will cover 5 and the attachment types.
This week we dug up an unreleased but relevant early episode on how the cultural tyranny of positivity gets in the way of inner work and people accurately viewing the types and themselves. #Nota4 vs the self-help compulsion to view type 4 as a positive type. What the gap between 4 and 5 on the symbol represents. How health is not about having positive attitudes or outcomes. How people often use the enneagram to avoid negative truths and reinforce positive type based perspectives. Cultural differences and how it influences the expression of types and what people expect from the enneagram. How class and race creates a culture of not contending with our shadow internally and externally. We wrap up with examples of this playing out with terrible holidays.
This week we dive into the often misunderstood lines of connection and why it’s important as a path for growth. What does it mean when your type goes to the line of integration or disintegration? And why it’s more accurate that we’re drawing on both types in our lines of connection positively and negatively. Starting with the triangle types we go into how each type goes to the types in their lines of connection in healthy and unhealthy ways. As we go along David adds in his abstract ‘birth stories’ insights for each line of connection. We cover 3/9/6, and then 8/5 lines. And we’ll continue with the rest in Part 2.
This week we’re finishing up our trifix series by exploring some of David’s magical trifix concepts. What is a fix and a stem. How stems form a sub-theme to the core type. The difference between fixes and the lines of connection (integration/disintegration lines). What health means in the enneagram, and how the lines of connection work. How trifix has impacted our growth and self-awareness. How descriptions and definitions get in the way of understanding. And we wrap up with the usual useless beast terribleness.
Before we get back to our tri-fixation how-to series we made a pit stop to discuss mistyping and the drama that ensues when people aren’t seen as the type they think they are. The essential role curiosity plays in deeply understanding the enneagram. Why it’s important to separate your ego from your self-typing. The emptiness and disappointment of all the types. What it’s like to realize you’ve mistyped. And letting go of the self-fantasies we prop ourselves up with when identifying with type.
