Dusk settles over a narrow spine of mountain as routine turns uneasy. First it’s the rhythm—two knocks, then one—drifting through the trees. Then a faint, sour-earth smell on the wind. A treeline silhouette appears, then vanishes, replaced by heavy stillness and the sense that you’re being paralleled just out of sight. 
In Fear on the Ridge, we let the mystery breathe: subtle sign, careful observation, and the unnerving awareness that something clever knows the terrain better than we do. No big reveals—only a tightening spiral of sounds, impressions, and choices that say as much about us as about what’s out there. Settle in, turn the lights low, and listen for the spaces between the sounds.

The Watcher on the Ridge is a chilling tale about the primal fear of the wilderness, where silence isn’t peace but awareness, and where some things in the dark still remember before we ever set foot there.

Each night as dusk fell, the small cabin nestled deep in Deadroot Forest glowed warmly from within. It stood alone, hugged by tall, gnarled trees and blanketed in the soft hush of pine needles.
Wind whistled through the branches like whispers in an empty cathedral, but the forest was never truly silent—not anymore.

The day-to-day grind and the fact that I lived in a big city at times almost felt claustrophobic.
Coming home, although only a few hours southwest, was always a welcome relief. I grew up in horse country. We always had horses, and the feeling of being able to get out on a trail and feel the wind on my face was the perfect way to decompress.
I might go from a slow walk to a light trot or canter depending on the terrain. There’s nothing like it.
On this day, the gentle rolling hills led to an open meadow and finally over to some dense forests. The horse, Bella, was well-trained and gentle, a good match for my skill level at that time...
