This is a biting and ribald satire of manners and mores disguised as a fantastic journey to incredible lands. Gulliver's wits and endurance are taxed by the fabulous inhabitants of Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa and other amazing places.

Three adventure tales and biting satire on human nature.
    JoeDanDonigi
Each adventure he encounters radically different problems. The Voyages of Lemuel Gulliver include first, people six inches tall, second a land of giants seventy or so feet tall, and people living in an island-cloud. The fourth voyage, were his men mutiny, foreshadowing the darker side of human nature that follows. They desert on an island where the Houyhnhnms rule. A land of noble talking horses, who can't believe Gulliver has intelligence, ala Planet of the Apes, because the humans/Yahoos on their island seem but. This causes a series of discussions with Gulliver and his "master" a horse who can't grasp lying, greediness and all the various other human frailties. A in his discussions with his master causes Gulliver to be more and more disgusted with the Yahoos on their island and even the humans back home. If knew more about 1850's English history I might of understood the societal, political times of England and Europe in general at that time. There is also an annotated volume which includes more detail. But I didn't read it so don't feel qualified to make an opinion on it, just letting people who are interested informing them it's out there.

    A classic
I recommend the classic novels in literature to everyone, however, this Novel test your endurance. The beginning of the novel is very good very interesting and reads well. The last roughly 3rd slows down a bit and is difficult to stay with . Over all I did enjoy reading this book .
    KINDLE VERSION FORMATTING SUCKS
THIS REVIEW SPECIFICALLY FOR THE KINDLE EDITION--
I was disappointed with the formatting on this classic. At least on my Kindle Fire, the footnote and endnote shortcuts seem to malfunction. Some bad line breaks and lots of small annoying things contribute to an overall less than satisfactory experience.
    But it is free.
    A Fantastic Voyage
This is far better than any of the various film versions of this novel. A tv mini series starring Ted Danson seems to get the author's satarical nature instead of just being a voyage to four fantastical lands.

    Editorial Reviews:
The inimitable Laurence Olivier and Alec Guinness lead this fully restored and remastered production from the Theatre Royal. Originally produced in the 1950s, this collection showcases the dramatic adaptations of H. G. Wells "The Man Who Could Work Miracles" and Robert Louis Stevensons "The Suicide Club". Guinness and companys exaggerated and playful tones ensure the comedy of Wells' classic tale will not get by without its deserved laughs. And Laurence Olivier, one of the English worlds greatest dramatic actors, leads listeners right into the suspense and secrecy of Stevensons story.

    Good Old Classic
If you like good old black & white TV
    this is for you.
Takes you right back to the times
    before computers took over drama.
This is straightforward acting relying on talent.
As for the story, a psychological drama of do or dare, only, be careful what you put yourself up for ! winning is not everything ...

    Narrator: Antony Ferguson
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 16 hrs and 11 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-14-11
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 4 votes
    Genres: Classics, British Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
One of the greatest political novels in any language, Nostromo reenacts the establishment of modern capitalism in a remote South American province locked between the Andes and the Pacific. In Sulaco, a harbor town in the imaginary South American republic of Costaguana, a vivid cast of characters is caught up in a civil war to decide whether its fabulously wealthy silver mine, funded by American money but owned by a third-generation English immigrant, can be preserved from the hands of venal politicians. Greed and corruption seep into the lives of everyone, and Nostromo, the principled foreman of the mine, is tested to the limit.
    Critic Reviews:
"I had always thought that there were books you read to entertain yourself and classic books to educate you, but with Nostromo I realised a book could be both." (Billy Ivory, Nottingham Evening Post)

    Life is too short.
I like classics. I wanted to give this a go, but the narrator is truly dreadful. This book is set in a Latin American country where they speak Spanish, and has important characters who are Italian. The narrator clearly has no knowledge of Spanish or Italian and, amazingly, has not been coached or corrected. He mispronounces all names and phrases in any language other than English, which not only ruins the flow, but is downright confusing. His differentiation of characters is also poor, but it hardly matters, since you are waiting to wince at his pronunciation of their names. I gave it back. I am willing to try the book again, with a different narrator.

    Language: English
    Release date: 12-22-10
    Publisher: Assembled Stories

    Genres: Classics, British Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
The house is called "Pleasance" and is rented by two sisters, Blanche and Aileen. The story revolves around the fortunes of two neighbouring families of varied social standing. The sisters' semi-detachment is to the Hopkinsons. Whilst Blanche's husband, Arthur, is abroad on a mission, the neighbours soon prove themselves invaluable as friends and Blanche and Mrs Hopkinson discover that their husbands are already acquainted! Emily Eden said of this work at the time of writing, that it was a 'tolerably faithful representation of modern society' but when it was published 30 years later, she saw it as 'a strange chronicle of the Olden Time'. It remains, however, a sharp and witty cameo of polite society in nineteenth century England.

    Delicious
This is such a delightful comedy of human foibles and manners. The characters are lovable and I felt that I had walked into a circle of friends: I really cared about them. The book is so good, I have listened to it twice within the last week. Living in the book is preferable to the grim events of real life. The narrator is simply perfect and picks up the humour and irony to a tee. Pure escapism. I hope there are more to come. Lovely, lovely book.

    Autor: Jack London
    Narrador: Víctor Prieto
    Formato: Unabridged
Duración: 1 hr and 3 mins
    Idioma: Español
    Fecha de publicación: 12-21-10
    Editor: NEAR, S.A.

    Publisher's Summary:
Timothy, at just over 100 years of age, is the last survivor of the 10 siblings of Superior Dosset Forsyte. In this latest volume we are introduced to the grandchildren of those Forsytes who first began the Saga.
Soamess daughter Fleur is 20 at the start of the 1920s, a bright, wilful and independent spirit who can twist her father around her little finger. There is also Jon, the offspring of Jolyon and Irene, a sensitive and intelligent, though slightly naïve, young man of the same age. When these two happen to meet, at an art gallery owned by Jolyons daughter June, it is love at first sight despite the fulsome objections of both sets of parents.
This chance encounter is the first time that Soames has seen Irene since the Queens funeral 19 years before and the old fever still consumes him. His second marriage has been a disappointment and again he may be a cuckold, deceived by the louche Belgian, Prosper Profond.
Jon and his mother leave for Spain where Jolyon hopes the trip will end the young mans passionate feelings, while Fleur waits at home and begins to manipulate the adults to get what she wants. Soames, an anguished man, is once more tormented and perplexed by the women in his life.

    Great series!
Do you ever read a book that fascinates you so much that you wish you were in the book itself? I would love to do that so that I could be in the time period, and meet the people in person!
Not What I Was Expecting - But Still Good
After the cataclysmic events at the end of the last volume, I fully expected to continue with the story of Fleur, Jon, and Michael. But here we unceremoniously switch perspectives to the little-mentioned cousins of the Monts, most notably one of the young daughters. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I found Dinny a thoroughly likable character. The plot is a bit frenetic and episodic (and, I dare say, melodramatic), but it's also engaging and as socially insightful as ever. Although not perhaps as objectively good as some of the previous installments, I'd have to say I enjoyed as much as any in the series.
    meet john galsworthy
JOHN GALSWORTHY WRITES LIKE SHAKESPEAR BUT WITH A TIME GAP THAT MAKES HIM UNDERSTANDABLE AND READABLE. HIS LOVE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND HIS UNDERSTANDING OF HUMAN NATURE ARE WHAT MAKES HIM THE 19TH, 20TH AND 21ST CENTURIES OUTSTANDING AUTHOR. WHILE HE WRITES ABOUT ENGLAND IT COULD BE AMERICA BECAUSE HIS STORIES ARE OF HUMAN NATURE AT IT'S HONEST BEST AND WORST. I RECOMMEND THE "FORSYTE SAGA" FOR WHICH HE WON THE NOBLE PRIZE. HE IS PROBABLY THE FINEST WRITER IN THE LAST 200 YEARS.
    The escapades continue.
Dinny falls in love with a poet who might not be quite heterosexual. Dinny offers herself to him to, sort of, seal the deal and he responds, "Not now."
Of course the Charwells are upset because the poet, who had abandoned Christianity even more than them, converted to the Muslim religion with a gun at his head. They feel, with this action, the poet betrayed the entire British Foreign Service. Sir Mont's cousin is so upset that he has a knock down drag out with the poet. The cousin is 53 years old and supposedly had intentions towards Dinny. The poet is 38. Galsworthy considers both to be `young men'. I believe the cousin is jealous of the poet because the poet had come up with a great cover for his closet life. It reads like two queens bashing it out.

    The Best Kindle Option Available
I took a gamble on buying this edition when no one had reviewed it yet. I tried several other Kindle editions available and had found them truly appalling in terms of formatting. This however, is significantly better, featuring well structured chapter breaks and all the original illustrations, which enhance the story a lot.
Furthermore, considering it contains both books, plus the excellent Hunting of the Snark, it is a fantastic price.
However, there are still some glaring mistakes, such as some formatting bugs in a few of the poems and spelling errors in places (such as at the start of Looking Glass, where some of the Ls are replaced with 1s - I guess a scanner did the 'writing here').
5 stars for the great price and superior formatting over the other options. -1 star for the glaring lack of proof reading from the publisher.
    Good book
A classic children's book that never gets old. I bought it for my daughter and we read a chapter every night. The only issue I have is that it's a little smaller than I expected, but that's okay.
    Fun and ridiculous, as intended
Playful poetry may be more amusing for adults. In any case I finally learned about the Boogum. What fun! Theres some discussion that there is a hidden message in his poem. If so, I admit to it being way over my head!
    Italicized Text?!
I really wanted to like this--the original illustrations are beautifully reproduced--but bizzarely, half the books are italicized in their entirety, making them pretty much unreadable. If this were fixed, I'd give this 5 stars.
    Outstanding, of course.
There is nothing for me to add to the mountains of praise already out there for this masterpiece of nonsense literature â arguably the finest sustained piece there is, with only William Gilbert and Thomas Hood to rival it.
As the Victioran languge is sometimes a little dated, readers might care to go instead for Martin Gardnerâs Annotated verion that explains everything in detail (too much detail for some tastes).
