BUTT CANCER USUALLY GETS YOU IN THE END
THE PADDLE BOAT HAS THE TOP SPEED OF A TWO LEGGED TURTLE
If you have a bad case of ZOMBIEITIS, this just might be MOLELICIOUS to you. Hopefully you are using PLOYGRIP which is ZINC FREE and your not scared of ZOMBAMBIE. If your okay with cheesy, like to laugh and okay with POOPY YA humor, than get out your GLOW FART JAR and listen in the dark.
    IS JESUS A ZOMBIE?
If your a fan of J.A.'s lighter side, Kimball without the sex and bad words, than give this a try. While it has some gory,(as in bodily functions), it is not Jack Kilborn. It is YA. Before you get upset about the question about Jesus, I was actually asked that question while teaching Youth Sunday School.
As always a Great funny horror
I have to be in the right mood to listen his books but they never dissapoint. You need to know what you are going to get though and that is a gory horror with no shortage of disgusting humor and graphic Gore. I do enjoy his books however and chose to listen to this one with teen daughter. She found it as amusing as I but be warned there can be quite offensive scenes and language. I listened on audible and thought they did a good job as always.
Is there a Konrath fandom yet?!
I am so glad I took a chance on this book! I'm fairly certain I would read anything J.A. Konrath wrote. If he releases a book on the mating habits of sea slugs indigenous to the Arctic regions, I'd read it. And damn if I wouldn't enjoy it. But...the kid of an author? Really? That never ends well. Yes, Mary Higgins Clark and Stephen King, I'm talking about your offspring and how little I like their writing.
I debated. And debated. And then decided to give it a listen. I am so glad I did. Everything from Einstein's experiments to Josh's brilliance to the negative effect of dentures on zombie dining was entertaining. As a bonus, there is a brief interview at the end of the Audible version...I listened to every word of it, too.
Apparently I need to start a Konrath fandom
    Next book
It is a good book and it needs a next book and it was a fun time
    Not his best work
I'm a huge J.A. Konrath fan but this was hard to finish. This is the only book by Konrath that I did not give 5 stars to.

There are things in the darkness, things much worse than the tracks and abandoned pieces of equipment that trip the children up and gash at their feet and legs, things that brush silently past them, touching their faces before disappearing again....
    1977
In the sleepy town of Twin Falls, Colorado, what starts as a carefree school picnic ends in tragedy when six children disappear into an abandoned gold mine. Six enter the dark void and days later, only five emerge. After an arduous search, the hunt for the last child is called off and the mine entrance is blasted. Little Frankie is left behind, alone in the darkness. He is coming.
    2011
Police Chief Cal Hunt's investigation into a recent string of bizarre murders in Twin Falls takes a chilling turn when he learns that each of the victims was a survivor of the Seven Stars Mine incident. Cal realizes that they share a dark secret - the truth about what happened to Frankie. To drag them deeper. With time running out for the remaining survivors, Cal must face a killer that defies logical explanation. Because no matter how Cal analyzes the facts, there is only one conclusion: A supernatural force is reaching out from the depths to reclaim those who escaped more than 30 years before. And it will not rest until it takes them all...into the darkness.

    EZRA QUIT GOING TO CHURCH
Savage is a good word smith and he made me feel for the main character, who is a sheriff, who lost his wife six months ago. My problem was, I thought I was getting a horror. It is in the horror section and it has a creepy cover. It is a detective thriller. Awful things happen, but we are witness to none of them. Listening to the sample you would think we were, but no, unless it happens later in the book. At two and a half hours, I heard afterwards about bad things happening to sad people (who live in trailer houses, drink, take drugs, have multiple marriages and clichéd etc.) As a reader we are witness to none of these acts. We are witness to a lot of praying. I go to church and have no problem with religion in stories, but I think this whole concept kept the writer from being to explicit, which took the horror out of the story. Not that everything has to be gory, King has written plenty of scary stuff without getting gory, but Savage is not King.
    My Irritations
None of these were major, but were slight irritations that added to me quitting early. The narrator is constantly taking in a loud breath before starting a new paragraph. It is pretty loud and once I noticed it, I found myself listening for it and not the story. Story is not scary. A grown man keeping Hershey bars in his glove compartment to give to kids, sounds a little like Chester the Molester and how does someone keep a supply of Hershey bars in their car without them melting and becoming a big mess? Unless your Amish, who names a kid Ezra? 4.6 rating from 26 people on a story that is obviously average, sounds like friends, relatives and church members skewing the numbers.
    Loudest inhaler, ever!
Beyond distracting to have a narrator inhale so loudly, he would fail radio/ broadcast performance at a community college! So unprofessional and totally takes you out of the story, easily and often.
The story was decent. Certainly deserved a better narrator.
    Very Good
Very suspenseful thriller. Usually I know who the killer is but this definitely was a shocker!
    great read
I really enjoyed this book. Right from the beginning it was interesting.

    Genres: Fiction, Horror
    Publisher's Summary:
Inspired by Oscar Wilde's classic story of hedonism and corruption, The Confessions of Dorian Gray imagines a world where Dorian Gray was real, and his friendship with Oscar Wilde once spawned the notorious novel.
Starring Alexander Vlahos as Dorian Gray, this fourth series of supernatural horror stories comprises eight original half-hour episodes.
    1. 'The Enigma of Dorian Gray' by Roy Gill. Salford, 1968. Dorian returns to one of his former universities, having been summoned by his old friend, Adam Notting. Instead he is greeted by BEAUTY: the product of Notting's research into artificial intelligence. But is BEAUTY all it seems to be? And what of the BEAST?
    2. 'Freya' by Sam Stone. Scandinavia, 1974. After rescuing a young woman from the middle of a desolate forest, Dorian realises they're not alone. There's something else in the woodland with them - something following them - and it won't give up until it's finally tracked them down.
    3. 'Human Remains' by James Goss. London, 1998. To alleviate a typical bout of boredom, Dorian decides to have his appendix removed - again - and checks himself into "a very nice private hospital". However, upon his recovery, he sees a hideous creature stalking the wards. Is it just a side effect of the drugs, his mind playing tricks...or is there something more sinister going on at Melrose Hospital?
    4. 'His Dying Breath' by George Mann. London, 1929. The Bright Young Things of the city are living life to the full when a series of unusual murders strikes the capital. It isn't long before Dorian finds himself singled out as a suspect and has to clear his name. But how do you prove your innocence when the killer might not even be human?
    5. 'Banshee' by Xanna Eve Chown. County Meath, 1900. After one of Dorian's friends acquires a house on the Emerald Isle, Dorian travels with him to Ireland to inspect the estate. There they find a house in disrepair...and a supernatural tenant desperate to vacate the premises.
    6. 'The Abysmal Sea' by David Llewellyn. Greece, 1974. In a last-bid attempt to save their flagging relationship, Dorian Gray and Alyssa Symes embark on a simple sailing holiday in the Aegean. But the deep, still waters hide a terrible danger, and they may end up losing more than just each other.
    7. 'Inner Darkness' by Mark B. Oliver. Iceland, 2009. When a mission to finally see the northern lights turns sour, Dorian finds himself stranded in the middle of nowhere. It is only after the kindness of one of the locals that he is rescued and learns that there may be more to the local legends than meets the eye.
    8. 'The Living Image' by Matt Fitton. England, 1949. A chance encounter on a train propels Dorian into the lives of Mr and Mrs Moore. To him their lives are ordinary, mundane: the kind of lives he's always striven to rise above. However, the grass is always greener....

read/listened nonstop only had time now 2 review
I feel awful that I don't write reviews as often as I should when fantastic authors do such an amazing job of keeping my attention during my Crazy Life. If you have not read this entire series you are doing your self a great Injustice. They are truly a fantastic ride. I'll keep this short since 'the ruin' is waiting, I need to know what else happens in this civilization and with these characters. I have truly enjoyed every moment that I have spent either reading or listening to the entire series. Thank you so much for your contribution to our literary experience. I look forward to reading more.
On a side-note both of these authors have MANY amazing book out on the market. If they can be purchased threw amazon I have read them. Not a one has let me down and to my knowledge at this very moment the ruin is the only one left to read. They are on my list to check on monthly for new release. When I say I have a crazy life most people gasp when they hear our story so if I find the time I know anyone can and the last Survivor series is a great place to start.
Thanks for your hard work I only wish I was an eloquent enough writer to do this review Justice for you. It is disappointing that so many people got caught up with the feminism aspect of the first book I hope they stuck with it to see the end and what an amazing role those characters played. sometimes we have to show the disgusting side of ignorant people to really show how we grow and become more enlightened.
    Great Series
I like this slant on post apocalyptic world. Characters and plot development follow a unique track. Kept me interested and drew me in.
    awesome
all 6 books are great couldn't ask for a better narrator for this story I go though about 150 books a year and this story is in top 10
    Thanks that was great
Fantastic read / audible thank you need more going to. Heck out ruins and I ha e states contamination....
    A delightfully dystopian series.
I originally began this series because Sean Runnette is the narrator. He has very quickly become my favorite part of audiobooking. His reading style holds my attention in a way that other narrators can't.
I love the growth of the characters throughout the series. Every one of them lends a surprise and even the "bad guys" are made more human at times.
I can't wait to see what the next series holds!

"Bigfoot is real." That's what primatologist Dr. Sarah Bishop's father told her before his academic disgrace and untimely death.

They'll both have a shot at redemption when they find themselves hired by eccentric billionaire Cameron Carson. After a series of his publicity stunts end in spectacular failure, Carson has a plan to redeem his tarnished image: capture a live Sasquatch.

Will they find Bigfoot?
There's something in the woods...but it's not what they're expecting.
    Critic Reviews:
"No one can shift from gore to guffaws like Nick Sullivan!" (Michael Reisig, author of the Road to Key West series)
"Zombie Bigfoot is one of those stories that will stick with me...I would put this up with the adventure greats Preston & Child and David Wood. The narration is really what tops everything off. Nick Sullivan is a veteran audiobook [narrator] with hundreds of titles to his name. And after a few minutes listening to him you quickly know why." (Brian Krespan, Brian's Book Blog)
"Great fun and highly recommended...wonderfully wacky characters." (Bill Pronzini, author of the Nameless Detective series)
"Zombie Bigfoot is a super fun book that moves at a pace that will leave you breathless. The story is everything that I loved about the creature features that I used to watch on the late night horror shows of my youth." (Horror Maiden)
"Sullivan was able to create his bigfoot characters and make them so remarkable and almost believable. For a zombie story, it was incredibly dynamic. Sullivan put a lot of thought into every twist and turn." (AudioBook Reviewer)
    Members Reviews:
    Awesome!
I selected this book because it sounded cool and a little cheesy. I love cheesy sometimes. This was not cheesy at all! It was awesome!
I love how the story is told from the perspective of the Bigfoot as well as the humans. Sullivan also incorporates Native American lore into this story as well which I think is great!
The characters in the story are very likable, especially the Bigfoot. (not zombie Bigfoot) The relationship Sullivan builds between the Bigfoot and Dr Bishop, then later his daughter, is very touching. Dr Bishop made quite an impact on the young Bigfoot and helped with communication between the two species by teaching it sign language.
This is NOT the typical zombie book. SPOILER ALERT! A group of geologists happen to come across a strange green meteorite that seems to be emitting a humming noise. After the meteorite changes them into zombies, they encounter a Bigfoot! The Bigfoot, only trying to protect his pack, rips the zombies to shreds, but is unfortunately bitten in the process. You know what happens next. ZOMBIE BIGFOOT!
I usually don't like books narrated by the author. Very few authors can pull it off. Turns out, Nick Sullivan was a narrator first and an author second.

In this novella set in 1924 London, ex-boxer Harry Stubbs is on the trail of a mysterious legacy. A polar explorer has died, leaving huge debts and hints of a priceless find. His informants seem to be talking in riddles, and Harry soon finds he isn't the only one on the trail - and what he's looking for is as lethal as it is valuable. The key to the enigma lies in an ancient Arabian book and it leads to something stranger and more horrifying than Harry could ever imagine.
Harry may not be an educated man, but he has an open mind, the bulldog persistence and fists like pile drivers - useful assets when you're boxing the darkest of shadows.
The story of mystery and horror draws on H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos and is inspired by Ernest Shackleton's incredible real-life adventures.

A noir mystery crossed with Titus Crow!
Harry Stubbs, Great War vet and former boxer, works for a prestigious London law firm, collecting debts and doing some investigative work for them. While looking into collecting large debts from the estate of famed explorer Ernest Shackleton, Harry approaches Shackleton's brother, a low end antique shop owner, to see if he had any ideas about any hidden assets. Harry gets a cold reception, and is let in on the fact that Shackleton spent money like water, and was always in debt. He also mentions he is the last person Ernest would confide in, since he has a criminal background, and Ernest had grown distant from him. Harry realizes this is a dead end and goes into work to update his employers about his progress.
Later that night, after a night at the pub, harry is attacked by four Irish ruffians. Harry beats them using his skills, but realizes he might be onto something, since they let it slip this is about his latest case. This leads him onto a wild chase, as he tries to track down one lead after another. The speed of discoveries picks up, and Harry is drawn into a conspiracy older than history. The revelations about what Shackleton really discovered are mind boggling, and it brings into question humanity's place in global pecking order! The secrets of our deep past are revealed, and its certain not to be a good revelation.
All in all, this is a very well written book. Exciting fight scenes, a mystery older than written history and engaging characters really help. The characters are well drawn out, especially Harry. His past as a boxer and soldier are both brought into play effectively, as are his investigative skills and all around tenacity. The other characters are well drawn out as well, although Harry is definitely the star of the show. The setting is well described, and you get a real feel for what 1920's London society felt like. You can really get behind and root for Harry.
The narration is handled by Brian Gill in a memorable performance. He really nails the various British accents, and brings all various characters to life. His narrative style is smooth and steady, and he has great pacing. He can really suck the listener into the story. Top marks on this work.
Any reader that is into Brian Lumley's Titus Crow, Matthew Davenport's Andrew Doran or Ari Marmell's Mick Oberon books should take a look at this series. You won't be disappointed.
A Lovecraftian Adventure, minus the cheese
Would you listen to The Elder Ice: A Harry Stubbs Adventure again? Why?

When a young girl goes missing, Myrna begins to strategize again, only to be stopped by "The Maestro".
Heads on a pike, inventive uses for nail files, garrotes, and twisted nursery rhymes all play a part in book three of the tooth-rattling Cold Hollow series.
    Members Reviews:
    Twisted!
Here's me thinking that this series couldn't get more twisted, but the author proves me wrong with this edition of the Cold Hollow Series. The Mayor is days away from her wedding when her fiances family come to town. This family is quite....... unique! On top of that, there is a new man in town as well, a man whom the Mayor is suspicious of. She doesn't want anything to disrupt her wedding, and her new "family" will make sure of it.
As I said, this series is dark, but The Maestro takes it to a new level of darkness! All I'll say is Delilah!!! God she is one sick twisted woman!! There isn't much else I can say about this as I definitely don't want to spoil anything as it's better experienced first hand. What I will say is that this series is so good!! It's dark, twisted but oh so gripping! Filled with suspense, mystery, and characters you can't help but enjoy, this series is a must read.
    J. Scott Bennett was as awesome as always!! He just knows hows to tell a story and how to grip you from the get go. He has plenty of tones and cadences that bring the book alive!
*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affected my thoughts.*
    Book 3
What did you love best about The Maestro?
The book is a suspense/horror in a creepy little towns. I listened to the Audible audio book narrated by J. Scott Bennett. He makes the book very interesting to listen to. I enjoy the voices he gives to each of the characters and his overall performance.
    This series does not disappoint
This was another great book in the Cold Hollow series. It is filled with suspense, mystery, and very dark humor. I liked the new character introduced, Delilah - she was really creepy and disturbing - especially the pleasure she gets from mutilating herself (filing her teeth into points with her metal nail file, etc.). The whole series of books is really engrossing. I finished each of them in one sitting. If you like suspense/horror or are intrigued by creepy little towns, this is a book for you. I listened to the Audible audio version of the book narrated by J. Scott Bennett. He makes the book come alive. I enjoy the voices he gives to each of the characters and his overall performance. I highly recommend this book after reading the previous books in the series.
    Twisted and entertaining
    Any additional comments?
Mystery, suspense and horror combined into a dark, twisted, engaging and interesting story.
I didn't realize this was the 3rd book in the series when I started listening. It did not hinder my enjoyment of this book at all. I do need to go back and listen to the first 2 books in the series.

    Publisher's Summary:
Once upon a time, not so long ago, a monster came to the small town of Castle Rock, Maine.... He was not a werewolf, a vampire, a ghoul, or an unnameable creature from the enchanted forest or snow wastes; he was only a cop....
Cujo is a huge Saint Bernard dog, the best friend Brett Camber has ever had. Then one day Cujo chases a rabbit into a bolt-hole. Except it isn't a rabbit warren anymore. It is a cave inhabited by rabid bats. And Cujo falls sick. Very sick. And the gentle giant who once protected the family becomes a vortex of horror inexorably drawing in all the people around him....

    Difficult read
Not the best King, but classic King all the same. I say it's difficult to read not because of the writing or the narration (although the narration leaves something to be desired) but because it's a pretty traumatic story. I finished it in two listens, and while it's probably one of my least favourite King audiobooks it's still pretty damn good.
Lorna Raver was serviceable, she did a great job with her Maine accent (Ayuh!) but the majority of her male voices either sounded like someone who was extremely creepy or just sounded like a monster. Some characters this worked for but for others it was very distracting.
    7/10 altogether.
Not one of Stephen King best books
Not one of Stephen King best books. Quite slow in places and one does not really engage with the characters
Good book, not keen on the narrator
Good book, not keen on the narrator especially the voices for the children very irritating
    Narration spoiled it for me.
I just couldnt get along with the narration. I know and love this story, but the performance was strained, more so during dramatic elements, like running out of breath but trying to finish the sentence anyway. Seemed to have more emphasis on enunciation and diction than emotion and character.
    Classic Stephen
An enjoyable book and the characters felt fleshed out. A relatively short King novel. Felt it's a great book but not his best in my opinion. Although The Stand and It and Misery are tall pillars to compare
