· Drink lots of water

· Go a day early

· Good walking shoes

· Get to know the facility ahead of time

· Conference app download ahead of time – includes schedule and maps

· Speakers are approachable, ask questions and talk to them after sessions.

· If you sign up for a class that doesn’t interest you, try to get in a different session.

· Attend the after hour parties – network and talk to people.

· Take your badge off when you leave the conference center

· Don’t lose your conference badge

· Get a mobile charger for your phone.

· Should you carry your laptop around AU or even take it with you to Las Vegas? Think about it…

· Be prepared to share what you learned at AU with your office

· When your company is sending multiple people, always good to plan and know what each other is attending. But don’t go to a session that you are not interested just to be attending something different.

This is first episode of our third season we are joined by Charlie Williams.  We talk about how working for LPA, an integrated design firm, has changed the way we look at and setup BIM projects.  We also talk about what makes an I.T. department a design partner.

Creating a BIM Execution plan is just part of the battle. You also need a BIM Project Setup Plan as well.  But having a plan, is only as good as the people that execute the plan.  Charlie and I talk about what we do at LPA to setup a successful BIM project and how to give our fellow designers a great head start on their project.

More about the project

Project Soane is a worldwide crowdsourcing effort to virtually reconstruct Sir John Soane’s Bank of England, one of modern architectural history’s greatest losses,  using modern BIM technologies.

Join Autodesk, HP, NVIDIA, CASE, Robert A.M. Stern Architects, CGarchitect and Sir John Soane’s Museum for this first of its kind project that leverages modern BIM technologies to collaboratively recreate neoclassical architecture. Contributors will receive worldwide recognition and a chance at winning over $20,000 in awards for their efforts.

PROJECT SOANE

The team at Robert A.M. Stern Architects explored the Soane Museum’s archive of original drawings to compile reference kits for two of the Bank’s facades and two of its most admired rooms.

Upon registration, participants will receive access to the reference kits on Autodesk®A360®. Included in each kit is an Autodesk® Revit® software file, containing all the crowdsourced contributions. Participants simply contribute to the Revit file, and check it back into A360 when they are done.

All individual contributions will be merged back into the master room templates. This process will be managed by the Revit software gurus at CASE to ensure accuracy, consistency and completeness.

As a participant or team you can model as much of the project as you like. You are also not required to complete any section you start.  As this is a crowdsourced project, other participants can pick up where you left off by downloading and working from the model you have uploaded.

Once you have registered and logged into the Autodesk A360 website, you will be able to start contributing to Project Soane.

Full instructions, file downloads and a user community  will be made available on the A360 project website.
