So we waited and waited until we could hear the live performance of one of our favorite Night Vale episodes: The Sandstorm. And then we totally forgot about it until a week later. And then didn’t watch it for another week after that. YES, WE KNOW. We’d like to blame the pandemic but this is kind of how we roll.

It was worth the wait though, because of Live Kevin and all the extra guest roles and the Desert Bluffs radio booth covered in blood. (That’s our favorite part!) After the recap we also get into the weekly SitRep with beers, geek out about the #LostLightFest on twitter and instagram, and then jump into a huge spoiler fest for The Good Place season three, the rewatch of Haunting of Hill House, and the latest two chapters of Lore Olympus. (Apollo needs to get his butt kicked so baaaaaaad.)

The theme for our SitRep this week is mostly us going “OMG did you hear who ELSE has caught COVID-19?!” So we lightened the tone to talk about the other things we’re watching and which we HIGHLY RECOMMEND (the “How To Drink” youtube channel, “The Good Place” Season 4, and of course “The Haunting” and the “Haunting of Hill House”, because it’s October and we’ve got to have the horror.)

Elizabeth here: I’ve known my friend Rob Shinno for almost 20 years, but I had no idea until recently that he’s a professional musician, and his band Hemisphere has just released a brand new album, American Dreams. So I sat down with him on October 1st (the album’s release date) so we could talk all about it: his fifteen-year break from recording, why he came back, who he’s working with, and what the songs mean to him.

Massive great big spoiler warnings as we break down everything we loved about Paranormal Activity. The latest episode of Night Vale features a mysterious voice from Jupiter trying to figure out who she is and what her purpose is, something which I’m sure a lot of us can sympathize with.

After the recap we moved on to our usual SitRep, which this week seems to be more about politics than the pandemic. The death of Ruth Bader Ginsberg hit us particularly hard, so the main topic of conversation was how ridiculously broken our democracy is right now. (If our political opinions surprise you then you obviously haven’t been paying attention.) To cheer ourselves up we then talked about all the movies we want to re-watch….which apparently are mostly horror movies, because it’s been that kind of a year.
