  • Binge Movie Aftertaste – James Bond Retrospective w/ Matthew Goudreau and Adam Bunch: You Only Live Twice (1967) and Casino Royale (1967)
Before Star Wars, there was Bond. James Bond. It is a film franchise that has inspired everyone in in the industry from Steven Spielberg to Christopher Nolan to Rian Johnson. Eight actors have (unofficially) played the character over its almost sixty years in existence. And there is another one coming out this April. So what better time for the Binge Movie Aftertaste to gear up and cover a franchise that has been requested for years. Myself, Adam, and Matt are going to fire through a gun barrel the entire 26 film franchise, cultivating in a review of Cary Fukunaga's No Time To Die, which is being heralded as Daniel Craig's final bow as the character.

With a certified star in the lead and everything Eon putting out with James Bond making money, the franchise was on a roll. Despite taking a long time to get made and legal troubles following it, Thunderball was a certified hit, and Eon was anxious to keep the ball rolling. But Sean Connery was out in the press saying that You Only Live Twice was for sure going to be his last time wielding the Walther PPK. Does the movie once again defy the odds?

And then we get to. Well, a James Bond movie starring Orson Welles, Woody Allen, and Peter Sellers called Casino Royale. Kind of. Listen below to find out how all this came to be, and if all the talent behind the scenes made what they were capable of.

    You Only Live Twice (1967) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)

    Casino Royale (1967) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)

  • Binge Movie Aftertaste – James Bond Retrospective w/ Matthew Goudreau and Adam Bunch: Goldfinger (1964) and Thunderball (1965)

With the success of From Russia With Love establishing James Bond as a certifiable franchise, Eon Productions wasted no time in continuing their Ian Fleming adaptations with 1964's Goldfinger and 1965's Thunderball. Some Bond fans call these the crux of the series, and that Sean Connery's suave portrayal of the character in these movies set a standard for not only Bond, but all adventure films to follow. But will we think that way?

Join myself, Matt, and Adam as we continue our look at the James Bond franchise, and wonder whether all the praise that fans have latched on to these films is warranted.

    Goldfinger (1964) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)

    Thunderball (1965) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)
