  • Binge Movie Aftertaste – James Bond Retrospective w/ Matthew Goudreau and Adam Bunch: Dr No (1962) and From Russia With Love (1963)
Before Star Wars, there was Bond. James Bond. It is a film franchise that has inspired everyone in in the industry from Steven Spielberg to Christopher Nolan to Rian Johnson. Eight actors have (unofficially) played the character over its almost sixty years in existence. And there is another one coming out this April. So what better time for the Binge Movie Aftertaste to gear up and cover a franchise that has been requested for years. Myself, Adam, and Matt are going to fire through a gun barrel the entire 26 film franchise, cultivating in a review of Cary Fukunaga's No Time To Die, which is being heralded as Daniel Craig's final bow as the character.

By the early 60s, the character of Agent 007 had taken the world by storm in novels, comics, and a little known TV series. But when Sean Connery took the role of James Bond, its cinematic mantle had been permanently perched. 1962's Dr No and 1963's From Russian With Love were his debut features, and here we dissect if they were indeed the beginnings of a franchise that indeed looked to be a successful one.

From video games to why it took us this long to finally do this series, this beginning podcast pretty much does what these first two films do. Introduce you to our background with the series and see if this is a journey we are all looking forward to taking. Listen below!

  • Binge Movie Aftertaste – Bad Boys Retrospective w/ Matthew Goudreau and Michael Guarnieri: Bad Boys For Life (2020)
In 1995, Will Smith and Michael Bay were names known for things that were well outside the realm of blockbuster filmmaking. Oh sure, Bay had done quite a few well received music videos, and Smith was in millions of homes and stereos as The Fresh Prince. But once Bad Boys was released, everything changed. Smith became a huge box office draw and Bay would go on to make five films that contained robots fighting which we covered on this podcast last year. So what happened to the once top billed Martin Lawrence? And why are we getting Bad Boys For Life a mere 17 years following the second installment? Those are among the many things this retrospective featuring myself, Matt, and Michael Guarnieri, will explore.

It had no reason to be a box office success. It had no reason to be well reviewed. Yet, despite being in development for 17 years, a January release date, and original director Michael Bay being replaced by two unproven directors from Belgium, Bad Boys For Life has outgrossed its $90 million budget and has already been greenlit for a sequel. But is it as good as its critical success would suggest?

Join Matt, Mike, and myself as we go down the road that is Bad Boys For Life and do everything from compare it to Gemini Man to wondering what the future holds for Sony's surprisingly successful Bad Boys franchise. Oh, not to mention give ratings out of ten. How will we feel about it?

Special thanks to Matt, and especially Mike, who took this journey through the Bad Boys franchise without having seen a bit of it beforehand. Did he have a good time? Listen below to find out!

  • Movie Homework: Smokin’ Aces
    Welcome to Movie Homework!
We're continuing our trilogy of 2007 films with Joe Carnahan's Smokin' Aces (check out the first installment Before the Devil Knows Your Dead).
Jack Valley, Chad and I break down the film and discuss some of the highs and lows, what we initially thought of the film, and then, by God, fucking Blockbuster stories.
As we've mentioned before, 2007 was such a great year for film, so instead of talking about the top five that year (figure it out), we've decided to look elsewhere (like whenever Alicia Keys is on screen.)
