Friday the 13th is, without a doubt, one of the most notorious movie series of all time. When it made its initial run in the 80s, the movies not only drew the ire of parent/teacher groups around the world. It also was the red headed stepchild in the eyes of Paramount executives. How did the series develop from its inception all the way to the modern day? That is the question myself, Matthew Goudreau, and Mik Duffy will explore in this podcast series.

After 1984's The Final Chapter was a renowned success, Paramount, perhaps begrudgingly, saw that there was indeed more money to be made and almost immediately greenlit a sequel. Though what they ended up releasing, 1985's Friday The 13: The New Beginning, is a film that bewilders and befuddles fans and dissenters alike to this day. What was it about this sequel that made it have so many detractors? And is there anyone on this podcast that sees The New Beginning as misunderstood? Download below to find out!

Also, we talk about writer/director Tom McCloughlin's 1986 sequel Friday The 13th Part 6: Jason Lives. Unlike its predecessor, this film is looked at as a successful slasher film. One which saw the very first inclusion of 'Zombie Jason'. How do we feel about it? Listen as we decide whether we should just bail while we are ahead, or see this series to its very end.

This week the BingeCast has games and reviews of TV and films and new callers to Google Voice and farts. Wow. How great.

In TV we we rave about The Mandalorian (Still) and Morning Show. Are we confused by Watchmen still? You bet. Is Morning Show one of the better shows on TV at the moment? Absolutely.

Google Voice is drunk and stupid. Shut up Google Voice. Call 708-406-9546.

We play a DVD Quote game that Moreno is horrible at (millennial scoring including), and we review Parasite and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood in spoilerific fashion.CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW!Subscribe to Binge Cast on iTune

After Friday the 13th Part 2 made $21.7 million off a $1.2 million budget, the writing was on the wall that another sequel had to be made. But this time, executives wanted to make sure they took full advantage of a rejuvenated phenomenon known as 3D. So Friday the 13th 3D was released, once again to a slashing from critics but a massive success among audiences. But if the movie wasn't in 3D, would it be remembered at all? You might be surprised at the answer.

We then look at Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (keep the snickering to yourself. We'll handle it). Getting their makeup maestro Tom Savini back for what executives promised would be the series coup de gras. Of course, we know that to be a false presumption. But is it worth a look?

Listen in as Matt, Mik, and myself answer that question, and also point out the exact moment this franchise found its identity.

Welcome to Movie Homework!

After a bit of a hiatus, we're back covering the year of 2007.  First up, the final film from director Sidney Lumet, Before The Devil Knows You're Dead:

Boasting a solid cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei, Albert Finney, Amy Ryan, Michael Shannon and a few other familiar faces, StepChad's pick makes for an interesting rewatch, and one worth taking the time to revisit.  How does the film hold up these years later?  Is there anything more depressing than PSH scenes where he does heroin?  Does Ethan Hawke have a more firmly sculpted rear than Marisa Tomei?  Not for us to judge, but check the film out for yourself and get Alyx, Chad and Jack's thoughts on these questions and more!  Download now!

Tune in next time as we'll be discussing the film Smokin Aces:

A few years ago, I pulled Matt out of his college books long enough to record a five movie retrospective detailing our thoughts on the Terminator franchise. From James Cameron's first two ground breakers, to the two sequels of varying quality, to the infamous Terminator Genisys, we dissected the roots and follies of Matt's hero Arnold Schwarzeneggar's most famous role.

Cut to three years later. Many retrospectives have passed us, and Matt even graduated college. Yet low and behold, despite bad reviews and so-so US box office for Genisys, Cameron has used his hold on the Terminator rights to recruit Deadpool director Tim Miller for the brand new just released sequel Terminator: Dark Fate.

Join Matt and myself as we reminisce about that first retro, and dig our heels into what is looking like will be the final film of this dwindling franchise. Yet, we said the exact same thing LAST time.
