He is one of the most influential filmmakers of our generation. If Steven Spielberg ruled the 80s, it is safe to say Quentin Tarantino owned the 90s. His story is almost as famous as his observations of the ways of European McDonalds. A video store clerk who used a few big breaks to his full advantage. But as myself, Jack, and Alyx go through his resume in this retrospective, we will observe whether that still stands true today. We will also review his brand new film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and answer whether it is as good as its trailers look.
Kill Bill was released to monumental success, so now, once again, Quentin Tarantino had the clout to do what he liked. While his movies have always had a retro feel, he had never done a 70s style Grindhouse film that he grew up loving so much. But with the script to Death Proof and friend Robert Rodriguez fully onboard with his own film Planet Terror, the time had arrived to finally fulfill his wish. But how'd they do?
Listen to this different approach to the retrospective formula, as I begin the podcast with a full film commentary of Robert Rodriguez's entry Planet Terror with my normal podcast host Matthew Goudreau, who gives his thoughts on the films of Tarantino, and how he feels Once Upon A Time In Hollywood looks.
Immediately following that commentary, I bring Alyx and Jack back to review Tarantino's entry Death Proof. Does his affinity for these types of films translate to an entertaining film? Listen to find out!
