Bird Road Podcast episodes

  • Ennui Vol. 1.

You need this. In a world that’s never felt so simultaneously hyper-realized and specious, there’s never been a more important time to listen to our podcast.
Music in this episode is by David Rosen.

  • We HAD a 🐀 Rat 🐀 Problem, Past Tense, feat. James Hearn

Didn’t even bother talking about South Carolina because, come on, who cares about that state? We were able to host James Hearn because they finally invented broadband in Wyoming. He joined us to talk about the bent appeal of Pete Buttigieg, who dropped out of the race just before we recorded but will continue to be in our lives for the next 50 years and is sure to exact misery on countless people of color between now and then.
Stream James’ new album, which you can find here.

  • Cuba/Miami/Latin America: Lands of Contradiction feat. Nando Vila

It’s been a monumentally difficult week so far for Q and for Sen. Bernie Sanders, as powerful forces align against both of us and try to jack our respective swagger. The latter has drawn the ire of the Democratic establishment following his momentous victories in the Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada, and the former has had to deal with very unfair recording conditions due to home renovations. Things are tough all over.
We had Nando Vila on the show to talk about the Cuban criticism, what it means, and to explore what makes Miami such a bouillabaisse of conservatism, regressivism, recrimination and cocaine that isn’t nearly as good as people make it out to be.
Follow Nando on Twitter here, and be sure to go see him and Nomiki Konst on Super Tuesday if you’re in LA.

  • All Presidents Go To Hell – Live from Las Vegas

We had an incredible time at the Golden Tiki in Las Vegas, talking about the intrinsic evil of the office of the U.S. Presidency. We were joined by Jason Harris, Amy Vilela and Anthony Thomas, Jr., talked about the current state of Nevada’s caucus, recent goings-on in the state Democratic Party, and even had time to play a little game, as a treat.
You can see Amy in Netflix’s Knock Down The House.
You can learn more about Anthony’s campaign and donate at Anthony2020.com.
Jason Harris’ podcast is called Awesome Movie Year, and it’s available on Apple Podcasts and everywhere podcasts are found.
The Las Vegas DSA and Bernie 2020 could use your help! Saturday, Feb. 21 is caucus day and if you want to help get souls to polls the best way to do it is to sign up for canvassing shifts.
Big thanks to Gina Mizzoni from Gina Mizzoni Photography for the great pics!

  • Super Deluxxx New Hampshire Primary Special (We Won Again)

In classic dudes-hanging-out fashion, Q and Jewish Dave watched the returns come in from the granite state last night and exulted in Bernie Sanders going two-for-two in early state wins. Just a regular old Tarantino two-hander.

  • Challenging the Old Guard with Melba Pearson

The criminal justice system in Miami-Dade County is vastly unequal and predatory. People of color, immigrants and the poor are frequently victimized by law enforcement and find their lives caught up in the gears of an uncaring Kafkaesque labyrinth. The corrosive effects ripple outwards to their families and communities.
Melba Pearson wants to change that. She’s taking on Miami elected mainstay Katherine Fernandez Rundle for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s office and has adopted a platform of justice and accountability. She took some time to talk about how she would do the job, what justice in Miami-Dade should look like, decriminalization of marijuana and other drugs, sex work, houselessness and myriad other issues.
You can learn more about Melba Pearson on melbaformiami.com and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

  • Holy Sh*t Iowa! You Did It!

So in the span of a few hours we went from saying “Bernie Won” to “BERNIE MOTHERFUCKING REALLY ACTUALLY WON!” Last night was madness, by the time this episode was edited and uploaded Bernie Sanders had surged on the strength of being the only goddamned candidate to talk to the poor working class and recently naturalized voters at Iowa’s satellite caucuses. As of Thursday morning, it looks as though he will win not just the first round vote and the final round vote, but also the opaque and meaningless metric of “State Delegate Equivalents,” literally the last positive that Pete Buttigieg’s campaign was holding onto as evidence of some sort of pyrrhic victory. Sorry assholes, looks like you’re gonna have to turn to ashes as losers.
It’s a lot to talk about. Q recaps the entire mad week of incompetence-cum-electioneering, and in every day, in every way, we just keep getting better and better ya’ll. Onto New Hampshire.

  • It’s Miami, B*tches! with Al Crespo

This episode is ALL Miami, and our guest is local journalist and muckraker Al Crespo, who regales us with tales of corruption, power, influence and petty politics. From Joe Carollo’s mad quest to regain relevance and power, to the weak mayor Francis Suarez and his political ambitions, to the revolving door of current and former city and county mayors, to the disinterest of our states attorney, to the local media environment, we cover as much of the madness as is possible in a single hour of podcasting.
