After I took my postpartum doula training, it took me a little while to navigate what hours worked for me and to figure out what I needed to take home in order to make things work. Which quickly led me to realize that it was a larger number of hours each week then I really wanted to be working.
But I wanted to care for lots of clients AND make a lot of money.The setbacks for me were the apparent glass ceiling that I knew was there if I continued to only do hourly work, which in the birth and postpartum industry can be hard to navigate. So I made the commitment that during my downtime, I'd start researching and thinking about what else I could bring into my business that could create revenue but not necessarily take up more of my time.
I became a Postpartum Doula trainer and started to hustle with the marketing in order to build that side of my business, and even though it was a slow start, I knew that it was something that I would make work. I’m a hustler by nature and if I set out to do something, I will not just get it done, but I will absolutely go over and above to make it happen.
I went from not knowing what a doula even was, to now owning a multi six figure business that helps not only birth professionals, but postpartum parents as well. But through it all, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about hard work, but is also about having a strategy and dedication to making it happen.

Having a sustainable doula business that lights you up starts with having systems in place.
I know, it sounds weird, but with systems in place, (especially from the beginning) means you spend less time focusing on the business end of things and more time working with clients, which I know is what you're passionate about.
Three ways that I recommend to ensure your business is sustainable are:
1️⃣ Lifestyle Mapping
2️⃣ Setting Goals
3️⃣ Passive Income
I know, when you hear the word "systems," you think of things like Dubsado, right? Which, yes, those systems are super important as well, but today I'm referring to systems that you have in place to live the life you want while running the business that you love.
Lifestyle Mapping is all about understanding your ideal lifestyle and mapping out what steps you need to take to achieve it. Everyone's dream lifestyle looks different, so it's important to be intentional about mapping out what yours looks like. This will keep you motivated and on track with achieving the life that you want to live and having the business that supports it.
Goal setting is another important system to have in place. This involves understanding why you are running your business, and what outcomes you hope to achieve. When you have clarity on the why, it's much easier to set goals that will help you reach your outcome.
This will help you better focus your energy and design strategies that make sense in achieving your goals.
Finally, setting up a passive income system should be one of your priorities. This includes creating digital products and services, online courses and masterminds, or anything else that you can offer that will help you create income while doing less work.
When you have systems in place that help you create the lifestyle of your dreams and supports a sustainable doula business, you can truly thrive.

Hip to Heart Agency Program28 min - Transforming Your Doula Business By Shifting Your MindsetAs a birth or postpartum doula, you have an infinite amount of clients. People are always having babies!
So it truly saddens me when I see doulas who have the mindset that they can't get clients, they have to take more courses in order to get clients, or you have to offer 50 million different services.
This mentality is so negative and comes from how we are taught as new doulas.
The truth is, you can get clients without having to take more courses or offer a ton of services. All it takes is just being consistent, confident, creative, and authentic.
You need to focus on your strengths instead of feeling like you have to be a jack of all trades in order to get clients. What are your strengths? Think about what makes you unique and why clients should choose you as their doula.
Once you identify your strengths, use them to market yourself in a creative way. There are so many different ways to market yourself and your services, you just need to find the ones that work for YOU. This could be through word-of-mouth referrals, networking events, online advertising, etc.
The final step is to be confident in your services and don’t be afraid to ask for what you are worth. When you have confidence in yourself, your clients will too and they’ll be sure to come to you over any other doula.
So don’t be discouraged, if you want to be a successful doula, a simple mindset shift can make a huge difference.
The secret sauce is doing all of this and adding in an abundance mindset.
