Bits Over Broadway

Stephanie Juergens joins us to describe the indescribable. That's right it's a Meatloaf Musical. No better way to bring us back than mutant teens, rock n' roll, music videos, and horniness everywhere!

We're back y'all. Episodes dropping every other Wednesday.

Follow us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook @bitsoverbway.

It’s the episode we said we'd never release but as Justin Bieber once crooned, never say never. It's just Connor, Merrill Kaye, and intrepid sound engineer/editor/guest Nick Pierce. They chat about lots of subjects and occasionally make it around to the topic of Book of Mormon.

This week we have special guest, Justin Heim, on the orange velvet couch! His specialty is “failed” musicals and Ghost certainly fits in that category. Connor and Merrill Kaye have never seen the movie, which isn’t a great place to start, and it only devolves from there. A truly terrible musical discussed by three goons, what more do you want??

This week we have Peter Smith (Time Out New York’s 2018 Comic to Watch) on the couch! {And Merrill Kaye via internet once again} This episode is about Company, Sondheim’s show about a guy who is unable to commit. Revolutionary!! We chat about the Webber/Lupone feud and where it began. A discussion about how the Grammy’s work makes us all lose our minds. And the burning question what will Peter serve at their cousin Brycyr’s birthday party? All this and some actual stuff about the show!

This week we welcome Justin Glover to the orange couch (and Merrill Kaye calls in from a remote location in a field) to discuss Hello, Dolly! There are a few lags as we get used to our new set-up but Justin's knowledge and love of Hello, Dolly! make up for all of it. We talk about hats, Bette, gowns, icons, and the several thousand women who have played the lead, Dolly Gallagher.

This week we have a double dose of insanity as we welcome Caitlin Reader and Keaton Kruser to the orange velvet couch to discuss CATS! Our first foray into the oeuvre of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, and we have chosen arguably one of the most insane pieces of theater in the canon. We talk about Jellicle cats, childhood pets, our inability to focus on RumTumTugger, and we even managed a tiny sing-a-long!

This week we have Kathryn Jankowski on the velvet couch to talk about the 1980 hit Les Misérables! The story of life in France just before the revolution and a cornerstone of modern musical theatre. We discuss moral relativism, ask ourselves how many good songs are there actually in this show, and discuss how much Cosette sucks. All this and more!

This week we have Becky Buechel on Skype while we relax on the velvet couch to talk about Fun Home! This 2015 musical (with the first lesbian protagonist in a Broadway show) is the story of Alison Bechdel and her relationship with her father as they both explore and ignore their sexualities. A heavy subject we manage to insert some levity into with talk of coming out, Judy Kuhn, and Connor's notes!

This week we have Megan Betcher on the velvet couch to talk about Spamalot! She's here to tell us why this musical version of the 1975 film Monty Python and The Holy Grail is worth your time. Connor and Megan do their best to keep Merrill Kaye on track while she does her best to talk about anything else! Finally the gang plays "What Gender Is This Animal" a fun game for the whole family!
