Bits Over Broadway

A serious note: This episode of the podcast was recorded two weeks ago (a lifetime) and we discuss a lot of things we think are now relevant; community, mutual aid, and a political future of something better. We wanted to release quickly as we thought it would be a good episode to push people who are voting in upcoming primaries to consider the candidates for whom they're voting. But even with primaries relegated to the back burner, we still think it is a relevant episode. We encourage discourse and to hear your thoughts. And if you're freakin out about the current crisis, maybe this is a nice break.

This week we are discussing Moulin Rouge. No, not the movie, the show with an updated playlist and songs from the 17 year interim. Our guest this week is Kelsey Kennedy and while she saw the show in person and loved, Connor and MK have a different take.

We discuss the medleys, the Choices, the characterizations and Connor attempts to do Math. It is a wild ep for a wild show. You can find Kelsey across all platforms at @kelseyskennedy.

The teens are coming and they're....dare we say it? Horny. We say it a lot and that's because it is TRUE. Duncan Sheik's Spring Awakening gets us in the mood to chat about agency, education, and of course who was that guy who was gay who wrote a musical? (Give you one guess as to which host asked that question). Guestless for this episode, MK and Connor cover teen sexuality, suicide, German letters, and what it is really like to live in an art commune.

It's a solo ep this week! Connor and Merrill Kaye discuss "Title of Show" which brings with it all the existential dread of being an artist and what that actually means. Don't worry, we still make jokes, it's not all dread.

You thought you were done hearing about the Cats (2019) film? You thought wrong, babe. We've brought back Caitlin Reader Bruce (@caitlinreaderb) and Keaton Kruser (@kdkruser) and had ourselves a Cat Chat.

We get into casting, arrangements, sexuality, and the Growltiger's Boat on the Thames of it all. What you must remember is, above all, Jellicle's can and Jellicle's should. And we do.

Bits is back and worse than ever! We are screaming into 2020 with Bat Boy, a musical based on a long running tabloid story from June 1992.

Joining us to discuss her life, dead pets, and occasionally Bat Boy, is Maddie Byrne (@themaddiebyrne). We discuss Laurence O'Keefe, wild endings, bat attacks and Merrill Kaye announces her bid for the presidency. #PlasticSurgeryandWigsForUsAll

Merry Christmas from your favorite broadway podcast (or at least a broadway podcast)! We're here with a holiday themed episode about A Muppet Christmas Carol. We discuss Muppet legs, Jim Henson, baby yoda, and who would play who in a Muppet adaptation of Sweeney Todd.

We can't think of a better way to end 2019 than with this Christmas tradition. See you in 2020!

Good news! Bits is back with another episode! Today we're covering your secret favorite musical; Wicked. We have noted power couple Natalie Ault and Ryan Gianforte on to discuss what they love and hate about Wicked. We discuss why Merrill Kaye hates lore, Connor's fraught relationship with math, Natalie's theater obsessed vacations and Ryan's concerns with the plot holes of Wicked. It's a packed episode covering every inch of Oz and beyond.

This week we have Rob Glauz, MFA to discuss the 1997 musical Violet. We get into true crime podcasts, salt bae, road trip songs and snacks, discuss Connor's terrible poker traumas, and really dig into the question, do we like this show?

Too Many Sopranos was written by Edwin Penhorwood.
