2/1/23 Cassandra Flipper, retired lawyer, is the great grand niece of Second Lt Colonel Henry Ossian Flipper, the first Black graduate of West Point, not the first Black man to attend, but first to overcome hazing. No other students spoke to him while he was there. He graduated in 1877 & was posted at Fort Sill as commanding officer of the 10th Cavalry, aka Buffalo Soldiers. Falsely accused/dishonorably discharged, he continued in a career, an accomplished engineer. 1976: his honor was restored.
