Growing up, Shai's mother was the neighborhood booster: she sold what she stole to people in the neighborhood. It supported her drug habit, but she couldn't do it alone: at six years old, Shalawn became her mother's partner in crime. Shai reads her story at TMI Project’s first Black Stories Matter performance in 2017.
