Decolonizing your accent' is the second segment of the Blackcoffee_pdc meets Europe project. For the occasion, we invited the fantastic Nigerian-Italian podcaster and Youtuber John Modupe to explore the complexities of being Black Italian through his experience.
Today, John is telling us about his path as a podcaster. As he already said in the first episode, he is Yoruba. John is very proud of his culture and people. Nonetheless, he is also aware of the societal complexities making the Yoruba people. One of them is their strong attachment to education.
Here we are with the second episode of Exploring Black Europe with La Stanza di Kwanza (@LastanzadiKwanza) one of the two section of Blackcoffee_pdc Meets Europe, one of the Culture of Solidarity Fund recipients, an initiative created by the European Cultural Foundation (@europeanculturalfoundation).
Here we are with the second section of blackcoffee_pdc meets Europe for the Culture of Solidarity Fund recipients, an initiative created by the European Cultural Foundation. For this second section, we gave the microphone to John Modupe a.k.a the creator behind the podcast and Youtube channel OMJ. In the Italian context, John is unique as he represents a new generation of Italian comedians that perfectly embody what it means to be Black Italian. For John specifically, we want to emphasize that he is not just Black but also Nigerian Yoruba. John is an amazing comedian, entertainer, podcaster, and Youtuber, who through his skits makes people laugh as well as think about the modern Italian society.
Welcome to decolonizing accents!
We are glad to announce that as one of the Culture of Solidarity Fund recipients, an initiative created by the European Cultural Foundation (@europeanculturalfoundation), #blackcoffee_pdc, the Italian podcast that tells black identities with no filter, goes European. Hence the English! We will kick off this fresh new start with a new section called Exploring Black Europe with La Stanza di Kwanza hosted by the talented activist and co-founder of the cultural association @questaeroma, Kwanza Musi Dos Santos (@lastanzadikwanza). Kwanza will bring you into another Black European reality interviewing guests who are all professionals in their field for three episodes.
For this first episode, we are delighted to introduce you to Dr Natasha A. Kelly (@natasha.a.kelly), a German independent scholar, filmmaker, author and curator. Dr Natasha A. Kelly specializes in German Black Studies and is currently a visiting professor at the University of Rhode Island in the United States. In this instalment, the multi-hyphenate scholar explores with Kwanza the question of citizenship, the German political landscape now Angela Merkel is leaving, the BLM movement in Germany, and her hope for the younger generations.
We hope you'll enjoy this first episode of Exploring Black Europe with La Stanza di Kwanza.
