On today’s episode: hosts Brandon and Tamia delve into the ever-evolving history of Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade 410 U.S. 113 (1973), was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States conferred the right to have an abortion. The decision struck down many federal and state abortion laws, and caused an ongoing abortion debate in the United States about whether, or to what extent, abortion should be legal, who should decide the legality of abortion, and what the role of moral and religious views in the political sphere should be. The decision also shaped debate concerning which methods the Supreme Court should use in constitutional adjudication. This decision would remain in place until June 24, 2022, when, after nearly 50 years, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade; creating a seismic political and societal shift throughout the United States. The Supreme Court overruled Roe in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization on the grounds that the substantive right to abortion was not "deeply rooted in this Nation's history or tradition", nor considered a right when the Due Process Clause was ratified in 1868, and was unknown in U.S. law until Roe.

On today’s episode: hosts Brandon and Tamia delve into the true history of the Vietnam War, a conflict in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia that took place from November 1, 1955 to the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. It was the second of the Indochina Wars and was officially fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. However, unofficially the war is widely considered to have been a Cold War-era proxy war: as North Vietnam was supported by the Soviet Union, China, and other communist allies; while South Vietnam was supported by the United States and other anti-communist allies. The War lasted almost 20 years, with direct U.S. involvement ending in 1973. Though the effects that it had on the U.S.'s African American community are still being felt to this day: as the Vietnam War saw the highest proportion of African-American soldiers in the US military up to that point. With African Americans comprising 16.3% of all draftees, despite only making up 11% of the US population in 1967.

The iconic cartoon character Betty Boop was inspired by Jones, then a Black jazz singer in Harlem. The character was introduced by cartoonist Max Fleischer in 1930. This caricature of a jazz age flapper was the first and most famous sex symbol in animation. Despite this fact, Jones received no royalties or performing credits: as it took several years and a marquee lawsuit to finally expose the true origins of Betty Boop.
