Through battle the party downs the undead mage Meunice and in calling for control of the administrator role they cause the spire to summon a projection of the magi's soul. They seem oddly helpful, having relented upon their defeat their focus for the time being focused on their role as caretaker and administrator they offered to ask Arden's queries directly; they even allowed them access to the dragon's tear well of souls.

After a comfortable trip back through the woods the party heads for Vinculum where they anticipate confronting Meunice. Entering the region the are plagued by a sense of unease as if the shadows and ambient sounds of the place seek to do them harm at every turn. Sam and Arden break through the illusion cast on the land to hide the dangers within allowing Sam to guide Bata driving the cart at the time around and over dangers hidden from their eyes. Fully awoken to the passive dangers of the place the party ends up assaulted by winged blood sucking insects with a talent for wrapping their long bodies around their prey working with one another -- yay teamwork!
