Usually, on Blind Insights, we discuss frightening topics but this episode is very different: It will restore your faith in humanity. David and Tim interview Nicholas Christakis, author of Blueprint, a book that explains the cycles of human societies and instils or restores faith in humanity. Nicholas Christakis is the Sterling Professor of Social and Natural Science at Yale University. This title is awarded to Professor Christakis to recognise him as the best in the fields of network science; biosocial science; and public health, further proving the significance of his work.

David and Tim ponder the craziness and stress that plagues this holiday season and come to the conclusion that we should all slow down and make the effort to connect with one another in the ways that mean most to our peers.
From ours to yours, we wish you happy holidays and may the next year bring you the conditions for flourishing.

On this episode of Blind Insights, David brings his favourite barista-turned-actor into the studio, Nic Darrigo, Nic has his own comedy podcast The Nick and Stefan Show, but more importantly, Tim and David talk to Nic about his career choice, and what it took for Nic to act and be himself. Why is being yourself so important? Nic has wonderful insights into presence and charisma, and what it takes to bring yourself up from lack of direction to habituating being yourself.

We measure success by income and productivity, yet this misses the mark for comparing countries long term. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an inadequate measurement for ecological economist Phil Lawn from the University of Adelaide. David and Tim caught up with Phil to discuss the shortcomings of GDP and the alternatives to measure the genuine progress of a country, it's a lot more complicated than you may think, and the implications for resource use and the welfare of people are massive.

Now we understand MMT, and have a model for sustaining our existence, what can we do to bring more people up from unemployment and poverty? A Federal Job Guarantee is designed to ensure everyone who can work and is willing, will have a job. Steven Hail, a Doctor of Economics from the University of Adelaide joins Tim and David in the studio to explain.
If you're interested in some of these ideas, please consider coming to the conference in Adelaide in January 2020.

David and Tim were suitably impressed with Dr Steven Hail on the podcast in episode 40 of Blind Insights. The episode is a great listen but there was definitely room to debrief and revisit the information to solidify learning.

We get the two geniuses behind the Auscast Network to discuss the immense strength of the Hills Cider Co. Hybrid Series Apple and Ginger Cider. We discuss the state of podcasting, how difficult it is to get a good beer, how perfume is made, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. We also delve into the Kiwi beer, Epic Armageddon, for those of us who dislike ginger. Andy Martin of Studio Creations and Liam Carter of Cartel Media are the dynamic duo that make the Auscast Network, the network that hosts Blind Insights, Blind Drunk, and STRATEGIKON.

When we work for others our sense of success often bears on feeling appreciated by our colleagues and bosses. So how do we communicate and receive appreciation in the workplace when we all feel it in different ways? Dr Paul White is the author of 5 languages of Appreciation in the Workplace, a book that details why we speak different languages and how to learn other languages.
If you're interested in Dr White's work, you can find more at Appreciation at Work.
