It was springtime. I had only lived in NYC for two-and-a-half months. I was three month's out of the closet and still hadn't kissed a guy. That was all about to change one day after work. My coworker decided to be the best wing woman ever and take me to my very first New York gay bar.

It was called View Bar, pretty much on the corner of 22nd Street and Eighth Avenue. I'm pretty sure it had just opened up. We weren't there very long until a cute blond guy with spiky hair caught my attention at the end of the bar.

My friend, Marghiee, had a front-row seat for my very first kiss. My recollection is quite different, but she says I was a sloppy kisser. Whatever, I had my first kiss and it remains a cherished memory.

Since then, my dear friend Marghiee passed away from cancer. A tear fell onto my hand as I typed these last few words.

I love you Marghiee. I hope you're enjoying a glass of cranberry juice on ice. I'll always remember dancing with you in Alphabet City on chilly Friday nights.

I knew my life would never be the same the moment he heard me knocking from the other side of the door.

The night I came out of the closet, I pretty much covered every topic under the sun, except my sexual orientation. My friend of many years, Michael, was the handsome guy sitting across from me at a little Irish Pub in my hometown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was such a trooper, listening to me bounce from one topic to another.

Eventually our happy hour(s) came to an end. I was driving home. I remember looking at my hands on the wheel and asking myself, "What are you doing? It's now or never." It was well past 11:00 when I decided to turn the car around and head to his apartment. The road was dark and his lights were off as I walked up the narrow pathway to his porch.
