  • Friendship and fun first for these business best buddies

    Fun and friendship are at the top of the agenda for this cigar-smoking, scotch-swilling, golf-loving duo who are pros when it comes to mixing business and pleasure.
    Kevin Hutto and Rob Kosberg may not fit the regular ‘Couples in Business’ profile, but their business is built off the back of a 20-year friendship which comes first and foremost in everything they do.
    Together they run Best Seller Publishing, a US-based service which works with businesses to write, publish and launch a book to boost their profile and attract more leads.
    Their approach may be a little unconventional but their message is simple — fun and friendship first, and the business results follow.
    “The underlying premise for anything that I do in life is that I want to have fun doing it,” says Kevin.
    “I find that if you’re doing business with someone who you really enjoy being around… then it just makes the business so much better.”
    When we’re not laughing, in this episode we chat about:

    What Kevin and Rob do to keep fun high and friction low;
    The secret weapon that draws the party to them;
    When the boys are away, the wives do play;
    Roles — the Art of Working Together… and apart;
    How they make key decisions and have tough conversations;
    Why you must spend more time in smoking cigars in Caesar’s Palace;
    Their thoughts on ‘Always argue naked’;
    Why they only do meetings “as required”;
    The unspoken rules around when business is off-limits;
    The importance of deciding what not to do / which things to skip;
    Their guiding principle for knowing when to say ‘no’;
    Awkward moments of booking hotel rooms;
    Their guiding principle for when to say ‘yes’;
    What they wished they knew when they first started out;
    Plus so much more!

  • Mixing work, family and fun on a global stage

    It’s always so inspiring to meet a couple in business together who have mastered the art of integrating business, fun and family in such a seamless way.
    They’re inspiring for me because juggling the demands of business and family can be such a tricky tack to tow when you work with your husband or wife. Those lines get so blurred that it can be tough to do one or either (let alone both) justice.
    Today’s podcast couple, Kiri-Maree and Taki Moore, manage to do just that. A dynamic duo with an uber successful global coaching company, these ‘5-star nomads’  travel the world with their five children, setting up ‘home’ wherever their work-life adventure takes them. Sure, it’s not always perfect (wait to your hear about the Customs hitch which saw their kids stranded in an airport by themselves for hours!) but they wouldn’t have it any other way.
    In this episode we chat about:

    Life on the road: Tahiti to Sydney (and everywhere in between)
    The six-figure business that pays for their dream life
    The ‘stage show’ metaphor that sums up their roles
    Why they decided to work together
    Kiri-Maree fires up: “I am not my husband’s handbag!”
    The Ying-Yang recipe for success
    Sharing the load at home (or not…!)
    The Customs hitch which saw their kids stranded in an airport
    Why they rely on their village in times of need
    Tips for travelling with kids (and getting work done)
    How they make a home wherever they go
    Hacks that make life easier on the road
    Why they chose to take their kids on the road
    How their kids learn from the ‘school of life’
    Coping with conflict
    The ‘catch-all’ meeting that keeps their business on track
    Their 9-grid framework for making quick decisions
    Theming the days of the week for clarity and focus
    Learn more about Taki and Kiri-Maree’s work
    What they know now that they wished they knew starting out
    Plus so much more!

  • The power of vision and endurance

    This is a big call, but Peta and Brennan Fielding of Burleigh Brewing Co. are hands down one of the BEST BUSINESS COUPLES I have ever come across. Not only are they both lovely human beings, they are also proud parents, have nurtured a loving marriage for 19 years, they are exceptional business operators and have nailed the art of building a business around their personal strengths.
    Peta and Brennan joined forces to establish Burleigh Brewing Co. on Queensland’s Gold Coast more than 10 years ago, and literally pioneered the local craft beer market with their award-winning product. Peta wears the CEO hat while Brennan overseas the brewing operations, and together they’ve made their vision a super successful reality – and sustained it.
    In this episode we chat about:

    Raising children while building a business.
    Growing from a team of 2 to 40 staff today.
    Making the shift from DIY to grow their business.
    The big benefits of buying in more brain power.
    Those days when you simply can’t make another decision.
    Their roles and how they set these up around their strengths.
    Why working with your partner should be your Super Power.
    Conflict and stress: how they’ve worked through it.
    The tearful exchange that brought Brennan on board with Peta’s vision.
    How the division between ‘Bedroom and Brewery’ has evolved over time.
    Their rules around work talk (and how the kids enforce them!).
    Planning on the road: why cars and planes are an ideal meeting space.
    Avoiding those ‘time zappers’ that stop you from driving forward.
    Changing demands on their time as their kids have grown.
    The benefits of raising children within a business environment.
    How their parenting roles have evolved.
    Brennan’s shift from ‘technician’ to a more instinctive style of working.
    Enduring the hard-slog phases as ‘steps to success’.
    The importance of vision in motivating and building your team.
    What they know now that they wish they’d known at the beginning.

  • Welcome to the podcast for couples in business!
    We were inspired to create this show around the same time that we realised the number of couples running businesses together was rapidly on the rise. We’ve been working with business owners for seven years — many of those husband-and-wife or coupled teams — so we know that running your own business can be a tough gig, even more so when you’re doing it with the same person you share a bed with.
    Mixing Boardrooms and Bedrooms is a crazy journey but, when done well, is one of the most powerful experiences a couple can have. And that’s what we aim to deliver each week with this podcast — real, open conversations about the challenges we all face in business with our partner, and the ways in which our guests have juggled and navigated this path to create successful businesses while maintaining a healthy, happy relationship.
    As well as speaking with other couples, we will dive deep on the strategies that Ed teaches our clients to work less, earn more, and keep the love alive. So prepare to be inspired, motivated and well informed as we explore all aspects of being a couple in business.
