In this episode we have a brief introduction by our Host Randal Wallace on Mayor Robert J. Hirsch and the circumstances that led to this special series on his life and career. Bob Hirsch was the Mayor of Myrtle Beach S.C. from 1973 to 1977, and then later served as a Myrtle Beach City Councilman from 1990 to 1994. He would also serve as a member of South Carolina Governor James Edward's staff running the Energy programs for the State and he has been a driving force as the Chairman, Chairman Emeritus, and a Board Member for nearly 50 years of the South Carolina Hall of Fame.
Mayor Hirsch recently celebrated his 100th Birthday on August 30, 2023. He was honored at a Myrtle Beach City Council Meeting by our current Mayor, Brenda Bethune, and the current City Council at that time. Mayor Hirsch also spoke as the Keynote Speaker at the Unveiling ceremony of the Myrtle Beach World War 2 Memorial, at Warbird Park, at the Market Commons entryway on what was once the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. It was while recording that event for this podcast that we thought it would be interesting to take a look back at the life of this amazing man, who served as our city's Mayor.
In many ways, our Host Randal Wallace, has a special kinship with Mayor Hirsch, because Wallace is now the Chairman of the South Carolina Hall of Fame, and also once served on the Myrtle Beach City Council, following in the footsteps of the former Mayor. Our podcast, from its beginning, has focused on the leadership lessons that we can learn from the generation of Americans who fought the Second World War, and then came home to build the American Century. There is no better example of those leadership qualities, of integrity, service, boldness, humbleness, and patriotism than the example we have right here in our hometown of Myrtle Beach, in the person of our former Mayor, Robert J. Hirsch.
We hope you will join us for our 6 - part Documentary Podcast, with one special edition episode too, that will chronicle the life and service of Robert J. Hirsch, from the start of World War 2 at Pearl Harbor, to his time flying paratroopers and supplies over enemy territory, from France, to Holland, to Belgium , and over the Rhine River, to his long and happy marriage and happy family life raising 10 children, to his days as our Mayor, and as a staff member for our Governor, and onto the celebrations of his long life here in Myrtle Beach today.
This is an honor for our podcast to present this story to you, and we hope you will tune in over the next few days.

In this new introduction to our podcast documentary series “Nixon and Watergate” we take you through the many exculpatory examples of events that are exposed over the next three seasons that the public was unaware of a half century ago.
All of which points to one extraordinary fact, that Richard Nixon did not deserve to be forced out of the office he had earned. That there truly was a sinister force at work to remove one of the greatest political figures of the century from public office.
We hope this episode will intrigue you enough to join us through out 2024 as we take you through the wild ride that was the real story of “Nixon and Watergate”
** This episode is running simultaneously on “Randal Wallace Presents” and “Richard Nixon Experience “ podcasts as the latter prepares to rebroadcast our documentary series

On January 9, 2024, the City of Myrtle Beach held a swearing in ceremony in Council Chambers to welcome two new members of the Myrtle Beach City Council, Debbie Conner, and Bill McClure, and say farewell to two members John Krajc and Phil Render. This was the end of the election cycle our podcast chronicled in October-November of last year. An election cycle that found our host in the race as a candidate. He did not win.
In this episode we also saw Councilman Michael Chestnut become the longest serving city council member in city history as he was elected to his 7th term. At such a historic occasion, along with the retirement of Phil Render, our third longest serving council member, we thought it would be fun to look back at two men who were also among the longest serving in our city's history, former Mayor Bob Grissom and former Councilman Wilson Cain. Both men have since passed away but their memories still loom large in the history of our great city, and we thought it would be fun in this episode to look back at them both, as we see on this day Dr Phil Render and Michael Chestnut set new records for longevity of public service.
We also invite you to tune in to our podcast and its special series that will start next week as we honor our city's senior statesman and former Mayor Robert J. Hirsch.
Please tune in on this historic day in Myrtle Beach.

In this second episode looking back at the career of Senator Mitch McConnell we will listen in to two of his most important Senate Addresses. The speech he gave prior to the vote that rejected Robert Bork as a Supreme Court nominee and the speech he gave that helped save the current Filibuster rules when the Democrats attempted to change them.
One at the very start of his Senate career and one here in recent times. We will also listen to biographical story aired on CBS Sunday Morning, that will give you look at the more human side of a man who has dominated the federal Government for the past two decades and counting.
I hope this special series will give you a much deeper appreciation for a leader who has done more for the conservative cause than any other. A man few have shown their appreciation of in these volatile times we face today. In my opinion, Senator Mitch McConnell has often shown himself to be "The last adult in Washington" during an era when the rest of the leadership of the country could be labeled a collective national embarrassment.

Welcome to this first Grand Strand Politics Segment episode. In this episode, we try and set the stage for the coming South Carolina Presidential Preference Primaries coming to our State. We do so by covering several different political events from both parties that have occured over the past month in order to set the stage for February 2024.
First, was the Republican "First in the South" Action conference held at the Myrtle Beach Hilton Hotel. It featured a number of grassroots workshops and talks with big political stars in various fields. We included parts of addresses by Robert Cahaly, the head of the Trafalgar Group, the only polling company in America that called the 2016 election correctly for President Donald Trump, & we will also hear from Florida Congressman Byron Donalds, plus our own 7th District Congressman Russell Fry.
Then we will listen in on local news coverage from the visits to the Palmetto State of Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden. You will get some insights from these events as to what both sides of the political aisle think will be the important issues and messages for the campaign to come.
Finally, we will take you to a local meeting of the Horry County Republican Party where surrogates spoke for candidates Nikki Haley and Ron Desantis. By the time this episode is done you will have at least heard something from everyone of the major contenders for the 2024 race for the White House as we gear up for the South Carolina Primaries. A Primary, that in both parties, has often proven the firewall from disaster for whomever the frontrunner was and, in the case of both parties, it is safe to say it is here, in South Carolina, that this primary picks Presidents. So a lot will be at stake when February begins.
It is at this final meeting we will also hear from the 7th Congressional District of South Carolina's popular Congressman Russell Fry, as he fires up this group of Republican activists for the work and the fun to come as we kick off the 2024 Presidential Campaign in style in Horry County S.C.

In this two part Special Edition Series, we are going to look back at arguably the most effective public servant in Washington D.C. today. He is the senior Senator from the State of Kentucky, the current Republican Leader, and the man who rested away the Federal Court System from Democratic total control, making it a far less effective way for the Democratic Party to use it as a weapon to block conservative policy. His name is Mitch McConnell, and a good case can be made that he is the Senator of the Century as we approach the end of the first 25 years of the 21 Century.
Mitch McConnell has wielded the power of his position, as both the Senate Majority and Minority Leader, to dominate the domestic agenda of all of the Presidents who have shared the stage with him, with the possible exception of George W. Bush, the others , Barak OBama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden, have all found in McConnell a formidable adversary, or a most important ally, in getting anything they hoped to accomplish done. While President Trump has received the lionshare of the credit for the powershift in the Federal Judicial Branch, it would never have happened without the long , steady, hard work, that Mitch McConnell began back in 1987 to one day create the scenario that accomplished that goal. McConnell had promised to one day right the wrongs done Supreme Court Nominee Robert Bork and he achieved it on the day Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett filled her seat on the court.
That is not the only battle Mitch McConnell has won over his 40 years in public life. As we will see he has been one of the most effective Senators in American History. There is literally no area in which his mastery of the Senate rules has not left a full stamp on American life over the past two decades. When it comes to the Senate rules and traditions, messing with them in a way to get around his formidable presence has resulted in disaster for one Democratic Leader after another. As he famously admonished Democratic Leader Harry Reid when he imposed the "Nuclear Option" changing how Judges were confirmed, " You will regret this decision, and it may be sooner than you think" , it was.
In this episode we will look back at this amazing career, and show you, as well, the more human side of this champion of conservative governance. We will also hear for ourselves his long involvement in helping secure Civil Rights for minorities in America, a fact he rarely is given the credit he deserves for having played.

Coming in 2024, the second part in our three part series looking back on the Presidency of George H. W. Bush.
In this series "The Sweep of History" we will look back at some of the most historic moments of the 20th century, as Communism breathes its last and one of the two Super Powers, the Soviet Union, comes crashing down. Though it all happened without a war and without the United States having to fire a shot.
In this series we will also look back at the Gulf War, the textbook example of how to fight a war in the modern era, the Clarence Thomas Hearings, and the Soviet Coup attempt that helped bring about the total collapse of Communism throughout the World.
It was a dramatic year and a half.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
THANK YOU FOR TUNING IN THIS PAST YEAR OF 2023 TOO!!
In this episode, we look back at several people we have featured through the years who passed away during 2023. They included Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former Congressman John Jenrette, Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, and Senator Dianne Feinstein of California. Sadly, Congressman Jenrette passed away just as we were completing our series on him and his eventful and often colorful career. We also lost two of my favorite entertainers this year, Jimmy Buffett and Tony Bennett, both of whom we tried to work into our show intro. Tony Bennett was also a World War 2 Veteran who served in Europe.
As we look forward to 2024, we will be introducing some new features to our podcast, our new "Grand Strand Politics" segment which will cover the coming South Carolina Presidential Primary for both the Republican and Democratic Parties. Plus we will begin our new monthly interview segments with various figures involved in South Carolina and National politics. We hope these new features will add a level of excitement to our podcast over the next 12 months.
We are, in this episode, also previewing our sister podcast "The Richard Nixon Experience" which will be rebroadcasting our earlier series "Nixon and Watergate" all this year as we head up to the 50th Anniversary of the resignation of President Richard Nixon. We have a lot planned on our other podcast for the commemoration and invite you to tune in over there and head over to our website www.RandalWallace.com to look at our episodes, our books, and our "2024 Richard Nixon Vindication Tour" T-Shirts. We hope you will join our efforts to expose the wrongs done our 37th President, Richard Nixon, in this 50th anniversary year of the resignation, and as we go through again the dubious ways it came about happening.
We also have three more seasons of Historical Podcast Documentaries planned and in this episode we will be previewing them as well. We will look back at the consequential Presidency of George H. W. Bush as he has more foreign and domestic policy decisions to make in a monumental moment of historic change around the world. In "George H. W. Bush 1990 - 1991 The Sweep of History" and "George H. W. Bush 1992 The Changing of the Guard"
Then we come to the end of the World War 2 Generations four decades at the center of American Power, as we look back at the last public figure of the era, in "Bob Dole 1993 - 1996 The Last Man Standing", as Dole attempts to hold off the government overreach that has become the hallmark of the Federal Government of the past 30 years. It would be the last stand of the reasonable type Leadership we had seen from the Greatest Generation that had created the American Century and it will leave us all with the question as to whether we have been worthy of the legacy they left us.
Overall, I think we have an exciting and interesting 2024 planned here at the "Randal Wallace Presents" and "Richard Nixon Experience " Podcasts. We hope you will tune in, and we thank you for the years of loyal listening as we enter our 4th year and 12th thru 15th seasons on the air.

Dear Friends,
Thank you for tuning in to our podcast during 2023. It was a year that saw us delve into our most personal of podcasts to date, as we looked back at our friend former Congressman, John Jenrette, and his role on the national stage during the middle - late 1970s. We also examined the Presidencies of the two Presidents that came to office after the overthrow of Richard Nixon, as they were forced to try and keep the country stable in the most tumultuous of times, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter.
We then began our look at George H. W. Bush, his political rise alongside a giant, Ronald Reagan, and his eventful first year as President. It is the first of three seasons, two of which are on tap for 2024, looking back at the Bush Presidency, as he presided over the fall of Communism, a war in the Persian Gulf, and finally the changing of the political guard in America as the World War 2 generation leaves the Presidency upon the election of Bill Clinton.
We saw our show hit 12,000 new downloads, and get some of those downloads in an amazing 94 different countries around the Globe. We are honored beyond words and want to say a simple thank you to all of you that have tuned in throughout this, our third year on the air. We have quite a few things planned this coming year for 2024. We have two more seasons in our look back at George H. W. Bush, we plan to cover the South Carolina Presidential Primaries, we have a series of interviews we plan to share with you, including an extraordinary special series focused on our community of Myrtle Beach's own local World War 2 figure and former Mayor, Bob Hirsch, where you will get to see an example of the leadership lessons lived out in our own community that this generation of leaders set for us all.
I think it is a year you will enjoy and, like me, possibly learn a lot you did not know too. It is also another year that will be very personal for me as we look back at the two campaigns I cut my teeth on in politics, in 1992, and in our final series: Bob Dole 1993 - 1996 The Last Man Standing , that will look back at those years after Bush left office when Bob Dole was the last of his generation, and the only Republican left, to make leadership's last stand before the current generation of leaders took over from there and brought their dismal record of divisiveness with them.
We hope you will enjoy it, and we thank you for tuning in this past year,
Sincerely,
Randal Wallace

We begin our third season on Bob Dole's life and career, by traveling back in time to his April 1995 Presidential Campaign Announcement. At that point the Republican Party was on the rise…
In our third of four seasons, we will look back at Bob Dole's 1995 as he takes off into the Presidential campaign, while also trying to manage Congress. A Congress full of unruly new Republican firebrands in the House under their revolutionary Speaker Newt Gingrich. We will listen as that struggle between the Republican Establishment, the new House Republicans under Gingrich, and the Liberal Democrats in Congress, all converge into a battle for power, all of which allows Bill Clinton to perform one of the most dramatic political comebacks in all of American History.
We invite you to come along with us on a wild ride through the high points and low moments of modern American History, in an effort to show the citizens of today that we are an amazing and resilient nation.
