According to a report by the news organization The Cradle, the US government has offered the Houthis in Yemen several concessions to make them stop attacking Israeli ships in the Red Sea, but the Houthis refuse all offers as long as the US supports Israel's assault on Gaza. After the current assault on Gaza which began after October 7th, the Houthi organization which controls a significant part of Yemen began attacking Israeli ships as they cross the Red Sea, which the Houthis also control. In December, the Biden administration announced it had created a military coalition to fight the Houthis and protect the Israeli ships. Since then, the US has been unable to stop the Houthis through blockades, air strikes, and a series of concessions which include recognizing the Houthi government in Yemen. However, the Houthis have not stopped attacking the ships and have said they will not accept any concessions except for stopping US support of Israel's assault on Gaza, something which the US is unlikely to ever agree to.

Just days after sending a supply of thousands of bombs to Israel, President Biden told the media that he believes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should call for a ceasefire in Gaza. The US government sends $3.8 billion dollars of military funding to Israel every year. At the end of March, a package was sent to Israel including 1,800 MK84 bombs, each weighing 2,000 pounds, 500 MK82 bombs, each weighing 500 pounds, and 25 fighter jets. Marc Garlasco, a former Pentagon official, told the media that these types of bombs are so powerful they can "turn earth into liquid." Less than a week after the weapons were sent, President Biden said in an interview with Univision that he believes what Netenyahu is doing is a mistake, and that he should call for a ceasefire in Gaza. However, the reason he gave for wanting to call for a ceasefire was the group of European and Australian aid workers who were killed by a drone strike on April 1st. Biden also said that there only needs to be a temporary ceasefire of six or eight weeks. Biden has not taken any political or legal action to stop the killing in Gaza.

The Israeli news organization Haaretz has published a report about a letter written by a doctor who works at a facility holding Palestinian prisoners, and is concerned about the human rights violations that are happening there. The doctor works at the field hospital of the Sde Teiman detention center, where the Israeli military is holding Gazans who are suspected of being terrorists. The report explains that the doctor wrote a letter to the Israeli defense minister, health minister, and attorney general to warn them that all officials involved in this facility could be complicit in breaking international law. The doctor describes the human rights abuses including holding patients in restraints 24 hours a day, which results in amputations due to handcuff injuries, refusing to allow patients to use the bathroom and forcing them to use diapers, and blindfolding patients and feeding them through a straw.. In other news, activists with the British group Palestine Action broke into a military weapons production facility and broke through the roof of the building using sledge hammers earlier this week. The action suspended production at the facility.

Israel and its supporters have expressed more remorse for killing six international aid workers than for killing over 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza. Earlier this week, workers with the charity group World Central Kitchen were killed by an Israeli air strike. The workers were British, Australian, and American-Canadian, and their driver was Palestinian. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu, who is known for saying that there are no innocent Palestinians in Gaza, said the killing of the international workers was a "tragic incident (…) an unintended strike of our forces on innocent people in the Gaza Strip." Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, chief of the Israeli Defense Forces, apologized for the strike and called it a mistake. President Biden, whose administration has funded and publicly endorsed the killing of over 30,000 people in Gaza since October 7th, said that he was "outraged and heartbroken" about the killing of the six international aid workers. The Biden Administration continues to send weapons to Israel, including thousands of bombs that each weigh 2,000 pounds and have the capacity to destroy entire city blocks.

    4-1-24

The Colonization & Wall Resistance Commission, or CWRC, has released a report stating that since October 7th, Israel has stolen 27 square kilometers of Palestinian land in the West Bank. The CWRC is a project of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which fights for Palestinian ownership of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The report states that Israel has approved 1,895 residential units, displacing 25 Bedouin communities, and have set up 840 new military checkpoints. Hamas does not operate in the West Bank, since the official governing body is the Palestinian Authority. However, the taking of more Palestinian territories has gone mostly unreported in the Western media, and therefore Israel has not been pressured to justify the new invasions. According to the report, Israel has carried out 9,700 attacks against Palestinian residents and their properties in the West Bank, and has uprooted thousands of olive trees. In other news, every major human rights group including Amnesty International has determined that Manar Mahmoud Muhammad Qasem, who made a video in which he confesses to committing rape on October 7th, was likely tortured and forced to say the false testimony by Israeli forces.
