The world is responding to the viral video which shows the victims of the Israeli bombing of a refugee camp in Rafah, Gaza. An image portraying the tent cities in Rafah with the phrase "All Eyes on Rafah" has been shared 45 million times on Instagram in the past 24 hours. It was created by a Malaysian and Singaporean photographer who goes by the user name shahv4012. The Mexican government has announced it will join South Africa in accusing Israel of genocide in the International Criminal Court. CNN published a report showing that the weapons used to bomb the Rafah camp were made in the US by the Boeing company. At a White House press conference on Tuesday, national security spokesperson John Kirby was asked how this attack doesn't violate president Biden's "red line," referring to Biden's warning that Israel would lose US support if it invaded Rafah. Kirby responded that the bombing does not violate Biden's warning because it was not a ground invasion. The reporter, Ed O'Keefe, responded, "How many more charred corpses does he have to see before the president considers a change in policy?" Kirby responded, "I kind of take a little offense at the question."

A video showing the aftermath of Israel's bombing of a refugee camp in Rafah has gone viral. For months, the majority of the world, including the United Nations and every major human rights group has been warning Israel to not invade Rafah, the southern-most city in the Gaza Strip, because it is populated by over a million refugees living in tent cities. The Biden Administration also warned against invading, but continued to supply weapons to Israel. Since October 7th, Israel has been forcing civilians in Gaza to move south, only to bomb the place that they told people to go to. Now, the refugees have nowhere to go, since Israel has total control over the borders. On Sunday, the Israeli military bombed a neighborhood with tent cities, and a video that went viral shows the tents catching fire with people inside them. The video shows adults holding body parts of children and trying to identify them. At least 45 people were killed in the camp, and 60 were wounded. The Israeli military said it carried out a "precise" strike on a Hamas compound to kill two commanders.

The federal government is trying to prove that Hamas is funding the student protests against the genocide in Palestine. On May 10, the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray asking "whether the FBI had any(…) undercover employees, online covert employees, or confidential (…) sources" among what it called "pro-Hamas protests on college campuses." In April, Wray told NBC News that the FBI was working closely with campus law enforcement to exchange information. Earlier this month, documents found by Bloomberg News revealed that student activists were being monitored by the Homeland Security Department. On May 14, the Chairs of the House Oversight and Education Committees sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen requesting information about students groups, saying that they were "investigating the sources of funding (…) for groups who are (…) participating in pro-Hamas, antisemitic, anti-Israel, and anti-American protests with illegal encampments on college campuses."No acts of violence have been endorsed or committed by the pro-Palestine student movement, nor has it ever endorsed Hamas.

Last week, the Washington Post published an investigative report revealing that a private WhatsApp group that includes at least 12 billionaires was set up after October 7th in order to shape public opinion in the US in favor of Israel. The group, entitled "Israel Current Events," has about 100 members including former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, Dell CEO Michael Dell, financier Bill Ackman, and Joshua Kushner, the brother of Donald Trump's son-in-law. Members of the group shared the information anonymously with the Washington Post. According to them, the group was used to pressure NYC mayor Eric Adams to send police to attack the student protest encampments. The members discussed their past and future donations to Adams, and said that he was open to using private investigators, hired by the group, against the protesters. After police attacked the students, Adams announced that students were affected by what he called "outside influences" and that police intervention was needed to "prevent children from being radicalized." The Mayor's office denied the allegations about the group and said that the Washington Post should be ashamed of itself for being antisemitic.

Former Sonoma State University President Mike Lee was forced to resign after announcing that he had reached an agreement with student protesters. On Tuesday night, Lee published a public letter announcing he had agreed to the demands of students who, as part of a national and international movement, had set up a protest encampment on the campus in solidarity with Palestine. The letter came after three weeks of the student encampment which showed no signs of slowing down, and the students announcing their plans to carry out a protest action during the graduation ceremony on Saturday. The student demands included an academic boycott of Israel and public transparency of the university's finances to ensure it was not profiting from the genocide in Palestine. In a statement the next day, California State University Chancellor Mildred Garcia said "the message was sent without the appropriate approvals" and announced that Lee was put on indefinite leave for insubordination. On Friday, Lee publicly apologized, saying "I deeply regret the unintended consequences of my actions" and resigned.

On Tuesday, Sonoma State University president Mike Lee announced that he had come to an agreement with student protesters to end the Palestine solidarity encampment. On April 26th, the 24-hour encampment was formed as part of a movement which demands that universities make their financial records public and ensure that they are not in any financial contracts with Israel, Israeli companies, or companies that profit directly from the military. At SSU in particular, students also demanded the end student exchange programs with Israel, that Palestinian history be taught in the curriculum, that the administration officially call for a ceasefire in Gaza. In his letter, Lee called for a ceasefire, and said that although there are currently no Israeli student exchange programs, that he would ensure the university does not distribute materials to the students advertising such programs. He also said that a committee made up of the student protesters would work with the ethnic studies department to develop a Palestine history curriculum. The student committee will also work with the university to review and publicly disclose its financial records. Via social media, the students declared victory.

On Friday, hundreds of middle school students from all three middle schools in Berkeley walked out of school and marched to UC Berkeley to support the Palestine solidarity encampment. The students supported the encampment in solidarity with the children of Gaza. According to activists, pro-Israeli parents spread a rumor that the students were planning to march to protest a local Jewish community center. The administrations of the schools said that because of this, school staff was not authorized to accompany the students, and so the students were accompanied by only 8 volunteer parents. On a video posted on social media, a middle aged woman can be seen screaming "Hamas", holding her middle fingers towards them, and later yelling "you don't know history" at the children. At one point in the video the woman can be seen holding a sharp object. Gaza has one of the youngest populations in the world. Before October 7th, the average age among the population was 18 years old due to the large number of adults imprisoned or killed by the Israeli occupation. Over 10,000 children are estimated to have been killed since then.

President Biden has announced that he is currently withholding a shipment of weapons scheduled to be sent to the Israeli army because Israel has disobeyed the United States by beginning the invasion of Rafah in Gaza. Since October 7th, Israel has been pushing Palestinian civilians further south and Rafah is now a tent city full of over 1 million refugees. Under siege, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are under threat of being bombed, starving, or dying from malnutrition. Israeli leaders have harshly criticized Biden, including Israeli Minister of National Security Ben Gvir, who posted "Hamas Loves Biden" on his social media. The student protest movement, as well as many experts, say that the massive national and international support for the students put pressure on the Biden administration to make the decision. Since October 7th, Israel has killed almost 40,000 people using US weapons that the Biden administration has provided in hundreds of shipments. Earlier this week, Hamas agreed to the third party ceasefire negotiations as put forth by Qatar, but Israel has rejected them.

Aaron Cohen, a former Israeli Special Forces agent and police instructor, boasted about infiltrating the student protest encampment at UCLA and working with police the night they violently attacked the students. In a video that Cohen posted on social media on May 2nd, the night of the attack, he can be seen with a group of riot police, who he refers to as his "associates," and explains that he is in the staging area after running a "quiet infiltration operation into the UCLA encampment." In the caption of the video, he says the Los Angeles Sheriff's department is, quote, "preparing to make entry onto [the campus] to begin taking down the pro-terror, antisemitic encampment." On an interview with FOX News, FOX program host Dagen McDowell asked Cohen, "Wasn't it delicious seeing these antisemitic, anti American protesters get busted up on live television? (…) What did you see there?" Cohen responded, "I saw a bunch of spoiled kids waiting for their 870 açai bowls to be delivered." The students were protesting the genocide carried out by Israel and the US in Palestine. Since October 7th, 40,000 people have been killed and over one million are at risk of starvation.

Israel has begun its invasion of Rafah despite the warnings of every major human rights organization and the US government. Since October 7th, Israel has been bombing and laying siege to Gaza, starting in the North and moving South over the course of 7 months. Surviving civilians have been moved to Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, making it one of the most densely populated places in the world with one and a half million people in 25 square miles. For this reason, if Israel bombed and invaded Rafah in the same way it has done to other cities in Gaza, it could be one of the worst human rights disasters in history. Ahead of the invasion, the Israeli army dropped thousands of flyers in Rafah warning civilians that if they do not move westward away from Eastern Rafah they will be bombed. Since October 7th, Israel has warned civilians about where it was going to bomb, but has always eventually bombed the place it told the civilians to go to. Israel also shut down the offices of Al-Jazeera, the largest news organization in Gaza, before beginning the invasion. Hamas has announced it has accepted a ceasefire deal from the 3rd party negotiations of Qatar, but it is not known if Israel has agreed.
