At the Watergate Hotel, where Netenyahu is staying, activists triggered fire alarms and released maggots and crickets on all floors of the hotel to prevent him and his security agents from being able to sleep. Referring to people who protest the genocide, Netenyahu said "Many choose to stand with evil, they stand with Hamas, they stand with rapists and murderers." He also referred to the protesters as "Tehran's useful idiots" and accused them of being funded by Iran. Vice President Kamala Harris, who has replaced Biden as the Democratic Party nominee for president, has backed Biden in his policy on Gaza and has shown no indication that she will change it.

Over the weekend, the activist group Palestine Action attacked two companies that supply Israel with the weapons it is using to carry out the genocide in Gaza. In June, the group broken into a facility owned by the company Instro Precision, a subsidiary of the Israeli weapons company Elbit Systems. Once inside the building, the group not only destroyed all the equipment, but also documented the names of other companies in the supply chain. As a result, the activists broke into a building owned by the company Dean Group in Manchester, England on Sunday, and vandalized a building owned by the company Ametek in Surrey. Since 2022, Palestine Action has succeeded in permanently shutting down two Elbit Systems buildings in England, and temporarily shutting down many more. In the case of of the Elbit Systems factory in Tamworth, the company specifically cited the increased cost in security needed as a reason for permanently shutting down after several attacks from Palestine Action. Videos of all of the group's actions are posted on their Instagram page, under the user name pal_action.

On Thursday, the International human rights group Oxfam published a report detailing Israel's use of water as a weapon of war against Palestinians. Even before October 7th, Israel restricted the use of water by Palestinians in favor of Israeli settlers. Since then, Israel has destroyed five water infrastructure sites every three days. The destruction of electric plants and the restriction on aid supplies makes it harder to repair the damages. Israel has destroyed 70% of all sewage pumps and 100% of all wastewater treatment plants in Gaza, as well as the main water quality testing laboratories. People in Gaza have resorted to drinking sewage water that contains pathogens that lead to diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, hepatitis A and typhoid. Palestinian health authorities say that the polio virus has been found in sewage samples in Gaza. Oxfam Water and Sanitation Specialist Lama Abdul Samad said, "We've already seen Israel's use of collective punishment and its use of starvation as a weapon of war. Now we are witnessing its weaponizing of water, which is already having deadly consequences."
The organizations Human Rights Watch and Drug Policy Alliance have published a report detailing how federal laws regarding nonviolent drug crimes, which are generally much more strict than state laws, are a driving force behind mass deportations. According to the report, thousands of immigrants are deported every year for non violent federal drug offenses that are, in many cases, not even a crime in their state. In recent years, many states have decriminalized small amounts of an illegal substance for personal use. In the case of cannabis, some states have decriminalized recreational use of it altogether. But because these laws have not yet become federal law, immigrants who are navigating the federal immigration enforcement system are being arrested, deported, and not allowed entry in the United States due to having a federal crime on their record. The report focused their research on particularly vulnerable immigrants, such as asylum seekers and those who have lived in the US since childhood. The report states that between 2002 and 2020, half a million immigrants were deported for non-violent drug offenses.

President Biden has continued to make mistakes that call into question his ability to be President. Biden delivered what most consider a poor performance during the presidential candidate debate against Donald Trump in June. As a result, many voters and high ranking members of the Democratic Party called into question whether Biden, who is 81 years old, was mentally fit enough to continue his presidency into a second term. This week, Biden made significant mistakes during his presence at both the NATO forum and his own press conference. Most notably, he introduced Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy as "Putin," referring to Russian president and enemy of NATO Vladimir Putin. Answering a question about Vice President Kamala Harris, Biden referred to her as "Vice President Trump." Answering another question about supplying weapons to Ukraine, Biden said he was consulting with the "Commander in Chief," a position that he holds. Ensuring that aging politicians remain in their position for strategic reasons, regardless of their ability to carry out their work, is common in political parties.

US officials have announced that the so-called humanitarian aid pier in Gaza, built by the US military, will be permanently dismantled as soon as next week. In March, while the Biden Administration was facing criticism for funding the Israeli genocide of Palestinians, President Biden delivered the annual State of the Union Address. Facing pressure from worldwide protests, human rights organizations, labor unions, the United Nations, and the International Criminal Court, it was expected that Biden would address the criticism. However, he did not address the tens of thousands of civilians killed, or the formal accusations of genocide, or the mass protests all around the world. Instead, he made an unexpected announcement about plans to build a pier on the Southern coast of Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. This announcement confused many experts and left many questions unanswered, mostly about how the project would be viable. In June, Israeli and US military forces used the pier to disguise themselves as aid workers and massacre 300 Palestinians at the Nuseirat refugee camp. The pier will be dismantled by the US military this week. The cost to US taxpayers was $320 million.

On Monday, the news magazines +972 and Local Call published an investigative report detailing how the Israeli military puts little to no restrictions on the use of weapons by soldiers. The journalists talked with six former Israeli soldiers whose testimonies all corroborated each other. According to the Israeli military, because Hamas fighters are not always in uniform, there are almost no restrictions in terms of who, when, or why Israeli soldiers can shoot any Palestinian person they see, of any age. Soldiers are required to report the "number of terrorists" they killed, and there is a sense of competition about who has killed the most. The soldiers also described what the military calls "normal fire;" when the soldiers just fire their weapons at buildings out of boredom. Many times, this results in Israeli soldiers accidentally shooting and killing each other. The prestigious medical journal The Lancet has published an article saying that the true death toll in Gaza since October 7th is at least 186,000. The widely reported number had stopped at about 40,000 because it became too difficult to keep track of the deaths.

These are the News Bulletin updates for today. Maryam Hassanein, special assistant at the U.S. Interior Department, has become the 12th Biden administration official to resign in protest of Israel's genocide in Palestine. Hassanein said, "I resigned (…) because I felt it necessary to advocate for Palestinians, who are, at the hands of Israel, undergoing a genocide. And with the U.S.'s (…) funding and backing and support of Israel, I felt that (…) being a Biden-Harris appointee made me complicit." The 12 officials that have resigned have all written an open letter criticizing Biden's policy in Palestine. In other news, Noam Chomsky, author of more than 150 books and one of the most influential critics of U.S. power in the world, has been released from a Brazilian hospital after having a stroke at age 95. Chomsky is a professor of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but is more well known for being a public intellectual and a critic of U.S. foreign and economic policy. Chomsky wrote several books about the CIA's involvement in Latin America during the 80s, and in 1983 wrote a book about the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

On Saturday, an estimated 130,000 protesters marched in Tel Aviv, Israel, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza so that Hamas will release the Israeli hostages. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu has become more and more unpopular among Israeli citizens as a result of several corruption scandals over the years, and since October 7th has rejected over ten ceasefire proposals from Hamas as well as the third party negotiations. Netenyahu has stated that he will only accept a ceasefire after he has defeated Hamas, something that most experts believe is unlikely to happen. Critics say that Netenyahu is extending the length of the war as long as possible in order to draw attention away from his other scandals and to avoid being prosecuted for human rights violations in Gaza. Snir Daan, whose cousin is being held hostage by Hamas in Gaza, told the media "The one thing standing between us and our loved ones is Netanyahu's stubborn insistence to not end this war as a part of a deal. The continuation of this war means the murder of the hostages by Israelis' government. The blood is on your hands."

The United Nations released a report showing evidence of famine in Gaza. The number of people in the Gaza Strip facing what the report calls catastrophic levels of food insecurity, starvation, exhaustion and an extreme lack of food is approaching 500,000. Over 20% of households in Gaza go full days without eating. Israel has limited the amount of food allowed into Gaza for decades, but has cut off almost all access to food since October 7th. The act of punishing a population for the acts of a few members is known as Collective Punishment, officially defined as "a punishment or sanction imposed on a group or whole community for acts allegedly perpetrated by a member of that group, which could be an ethnic or political group, or just the family, friends and neighbors of the perpetrator." Collective punishment is banned by the Geneva Convention and is considered a crime against humanity. Dr. Osama Hamed, a surgeon in Gaza, said to the media "We see patients who are just skin and bones, as a sign of severe malnutrition. Patients have reported not eating any protein for several months, making it impossible for their bodies to recover from infections and injuries."
