On this bonus episode of CASCADE OF HISTORY, Feliks Banel speaks with Alex Silverman, who recently left KNX News, the legendary commercial news radio station in Los Angeles.
Silverman was serving as Director of News and Programming in January 2025 when a series of devastating wildfires struck Southern California. During that time, KNX provided its listeners with some of the best live and local radio coverage in recent memory for a stretch of nearly two weeks. While Southern California is outside of CASCADE OF HISTORY’s typical geographic area, the lessons learned and advice Silverman offers is well worth a listen. Following the interview, we hear a sample of KNX coverage (which Alex mentions in the conversation) from reporter Nataly Tavidian.
CASCADE OF HISTORY is broadcast LIVE most Sunday nights at 8pm Pacific Time via SPACE 101.1 FM in Seattle and gallantly streams everywhere via space101fm.org. The radio station is located at historic Magnuson Park - formerly Sand Point Naval Air Station - on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle.
