On this BONUS EPISODE of CASCADE OF HISTORY, Feliks Banel looks in the past and future of Freighthouse Square in Tacoma with Tacoma historian and historic preservationist Michael Sullivan, and with Sound Transit public information officer David Jackson.
As reported last week by multiple media outlets in the Puget Sound area, Freighthouse Square is likely to be demolished or radically altered sometime in the next few years. The structure, originally built for railroad purposes by the Milwaukee Road, stands in the way of new facilities planned by Sound Transit, the agency working to bring a light rail connection to the City of Destiny in the next decade.
CASCADE OF HISTORY is broadcast LIVE most Sunday nights at 8pm Pacific Time via SPACE 101.1 FM in Seattle and gallantly streams everywhere via space101fm.org. The radio station is located at historic Magnuson Park - formerly Sand Point Naval Air Station - on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle.
