  • Murder Ballads: Dark, Disturbing & Shocking Stories with Author Steven L. Jones [Episode 167]
Steven L Jones is the author of Murder Ballads Old and New: A Dark and Bloody Record. The book is an exploration of an age-old topic— our human need to document the horrors of the world around us.

Steven talks about the origins of the murder ballad, what makes up a horror ballad and some of the murder ballads recorded in punk, post-punk, alt-country, and folk by artists including Johnny Cash, The Smiths, Bob Dylan, The Clash, the Drive By Truckers, Lou Reed, and some obscure songs with stories that are almost hard to believe are true including a 1954 song which would eerily forecast the doom for the man who created a song called "I’m Gonna Murder My Baby". This story and many more in this episode.

  • Staring Down Uzis At A Concert & More Wild Stories From Author/Musician/Documentarian Frank Meyer [Episode 165]
It’s another chapter in The Dialogue Series. A chill ‘n chat with musicians, authors, fellow podcasters, listeners, and more. Our guest is Frank Meyer. Frank is an award-winning musician, director, and author from Los Angeles. He's best known for his vocal work with Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer James Williamson (Iggy and the Stooges), his rock band The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs, and his studio and road work with cult legends Wayne Kramer (MC5), Cherie Currie (The Runaways), Sylvain Sylvain (New York Dolls), Cheetah Chrome (Dead Boys), just to name a few.

Frank was the very first guest of the Booked On Rock podcast. He appeared in May of 2021 to talk about his two excellent books: On The Road With The Ramones and When The Wall Of Sound Met The New York Underground. He’s got a brand-new documentary feature film out now called Freestyle 101 Hip-Hop History. It's just been released on Amazon Prime, Google Play, and YouTube Movies. We’ll talk about that, along with just some of the many, many stories he has to tell.

Frank saw the metal band Body Count perform a concert where they brought actual Uzis on stage! He got to see Axl Rose around 1984 when he was an unknown, singing in a band called Rapid Fire. He later caught a pre-famous Axl and Slash backstage at an MTV Video Awards show stealing food from a catering line. We talk the raw side of Eddie Van Halen, why he would love to see Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony write a book and what he'd want to be in it. We wind down with a discussion of Keith Richards, and the latest Rolling Stones album Hackney Diamonds!

  • Talking 50 Years Of KISS with Author Martin Popoff [Episode 162]
KISS fans, there’s a brand-new book out called KISS @ 50, and this is one you will want to get!

Part of a phenomenal @50 series from Motorbooks, this is a trip through 50 years of “The Hottest Band In The World”. It’s beautifully packaged and produced in a hardcover format, with stunning photos of the band on and off stage, much of them never before published. There are images of memorabilia, including gig posters, 7-inch picture sleeves, ticket stubs, and more. If there was ever a book that deserves something this visually stunning, it’s KISS.

To add to the experience is veteran author Martin Popoff, who pays tribute to the band by curating and examining the 50 most significant milestones. He covers all things KISS, starting with the band’s formation in the early 70s, to their meteoric rise to fame by the end of the decade, to the departure of original members Peter Criss and Ace Frehley, to the roller coaster ride of the 80s, the massively successful 90s reunion of the original four, right through to the band’s current “End Of The Road” tour. Martin is here to talk about all of it!

  • The Life & Career Of Ronnie Lane (Small Faces, Faces) with Author Caroline Stafford [Episode 161]
Caroline Stafford is this episode’s guest. Caroline and David Stafford are authors of the brand-new book Anymore for Anymore: The Ronnie Lane Story. This is the biography of British singer/songwriter Ronnie Lane. In the 60s he co-founded Small Faces, who recorded several hit singles including “Itchycoo Park”, “Lazy Sunday”, “All or Nothing”, and “Tin Soldier”. But before long, singer Steve Marriott left the band to form Humble Pie, and the band would morph into Faces with Rod Stewart on lead vocals. That lineup would record future classics including “Stay With Me”, “I Know I’m Losing You”, and “Ooh La La”.

Anymore for Anymore charts the fortunes of Lane throughout that period, his later work with his band Slim Chance, and his unfortunate early death. Caroline is here to share her experience in writing the book and to talk about the career of the late great Ronnie Lane.

David Bowie said of Armstrong, “Kevin does what I pretend to do.
