La Piragua recipe:
- 1 cup fruit
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- Silver rum of choice
Make the syrup (w/ the whole fruit):
Remove fruit peel, seeds, and dice into smaller chunks. Combine fruit, sugar, and water in a saucepan. Bring to a low boil over medium heat. Cook until sugar is fully dissolved and fruit has softened (~10 min). Remove from heat and let cool completely. Add mixture to blender and puree until smooth.
Make the syrup (w/ just the fruit juice):
Combine juice and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a low boil over medium heat. Add peels and cook until mixture has reduced to a thick syrup, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
Make the piragua:
Combine the syrup and rum in a 2:1 ratio. Using a blender, food processor, or shaved ice machine, crush the ice until it is a fine, powdery texture. With a wooden spoon, scoop the shaved ice into a small bowl or margarita glass. Pour enough syrup over top to saturate the ice.

Ms. Trunchbull’s Hammered Throw:
- chocolate cake*
- 1 cup vodka
- 1 cup cold whole milk
- 1 (3.8 oz) package of chocolate pudding mix
- 1 (8 oz) container of frozen whipped topping, thawed
Combine vodka, milk, and pudding mix in a large bowl and whisk till smooth. Fold in whipped topping until it is smooth. Highly recommend dividing the mixture up into smaller containers/bowls to set in the freezer for a couple of hours. The vodka is potent in this recipe so feel free to cut down and use more milk (e.g. 0.5 cup vodka, 1.5 cups milk).
Alternate a layer of cake then pudding in a pint glass until full. Spoons are recommended.
*Store bought cake is fine but recommend no icing as the pudding will be sweet enough. If baking the cake yourself, add some baileys to the wet ingredients for flavor.
