  • All politics is local
U.S. Speaker of the House Thomas P Tip O'Neill of Boston coined this phrase which encapsulates the principle that a politician's success is directly tied to his ability to understand and influence the issues of his constituents.
Obama leads Romney 53 percent to 40 percent among likely voters, even as the public gives him low marks on handling the economy and the deficit, and six in 10 say the nation is headed down the wrong track, according to the poll conducted June 15- 18. Selzer & Co.
Some of the accounts that I read about the Bloomberg poll avoided that trap, describing it as an “outlier.” I don’t have any huge problem with using that term, although that still leaves you with a choice to make.
    1) You could just disregard the poll entirely, or,
    2) You could include it in some sort of average and then get on with your life.Nat Silver

  • The Turnout Model
The Obama ground game is the whole ball of wax.
It is difficult to overstate the importance of non-white turnout to Obama’s chances. Obama’s 2008 victory was built on historic showings from traditionally low-turnout groups, including young voters and African Americans, and most polls suggest that Obama is holding strong among non-white voters. If non-white voters turn out and support Obama to the same extent that they did in 2008 (26 percent of the electorate, 80 percent for Obama), then Obama’s 38.8 percent share of the white vote would give Obama more than 49 percent of the national popular vote, even without winning any additional undecided voters.Nate Cohn New Republic

My job is to bring jobs back to America," Willard Romney told an audience of business executives during his speech at the Business Roundtable in Washington, DC. The presumptive GOP presidential candidate said the role of government is to be "the partner, not the enemy, of private enterprise."
Graham, appearing Wednesday on a conference call organized by business groups, said he would introduce an NLRB amendment to the Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations bill when the Senate Appropriations Committee marks it up on Thursday. The measure would ban the use of federal funds to implement an August 2011 NLRB ruling, known as Specialty Healthcare, that critics argue allows for the creation of “micro-unions.”the Hill
