  • Hillary's History the Campaign 2017
Hillary  Clinton gave an unfiltered assessment of the 2016 campaign  because of unfair media coverage, an "unprecedented" campaign waged against her by a foreign adversary, James Comey's decision to re-open her email probe, criticism of her candidacy that she claimed bordered on misogyny, and a prevailing sentiment that she would be victorious, which hampered voter turnout. The coverage surrounding the server and the investigation were relentless and damaging. "[The media] covered it like Pearl Harbor,"she said of her emails. She inherited a data machine from the Democratic National Committee that she described as "bankrupt" and "on the verge of insolvency."
"I inherited nothing from the Democratic Party,". Recode

  • G.O.P. Health Bill the Darkeside
The health-overhaul bill approved by House Republicans would leave 23 million more people uninsured while reducing the cumulative federal deficit by $119 billion in the next decade compared with current law, according to an estimate from the Congressional Budget Office. The CBO found the legislation would reduce the cumulative federal deficit by $119 billion over roughly the next decade. In early March, it reported an earlier version of the bill would cut the deficit by $337 billion over the next decadeThe House bill includes $662 billion in tax cuts, the Joint Committee on Taxation reported Wednesday. The largest tax cut, at $172 billion over a decade, would repeal a 3.8% tax on investment income of individuals with income over $200,000 and married couples with incomes over $250,000. The bill would make that tax cut retroactive to Jan. 1. WSJ

  • Beyond Montana the Fightback
The Democratic defeat in a hard-fought special House election in Montana on Thursday highlighted the practical limitations on liberal opposition to President Trump and exposed a deepening rift between cautious party leaders, who want to pick their shots in battling for control of Congress in 2018, and more militant grass-roots activists who want to fight the Republicans everywhere.Rob Quist, the Democratic nominee in Montana, staked his campaign on the Republican health care bill, but he still lost by six percentage points.NYT
Quist restored Democratic order in these counties, winning both by 34 points. Granted, that’s a little weaker than Obama’s 32-point respective wins in each relative to the statewide vote in each election, given that Quist lost statewide by six and Obama lost statewide by 14, but it does provide a very limited example suggesting that Trump’s performance in some traditional white working-class bastions may not be transferable to other Republicans, at least in the short term.Sabato's Crystal Ball

  • Memorial Day 2016
Namkai-Meche's mother posted about the tragedy on Facebook Saturday, calling him a "hero" who will "remain a hero on the other side of the veil."In a statement to media, the family also said Namkai-Meche "lived a joyous and full life."His enthusiasm was infectious. We lost him in a senseless act that brought close to home the insidious rift of prejudice and intolerance that is too familiar, too common."
Rick Best 53, one of two men killed in a brutal attack Friday aboard a MAX train, was a city of Portland employee and  Army veteran
We all hope we would rise up against that kind of vitriol, but the reality is, most of us would not. It makes what Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, Rick Best and Micah David-Cole Fletcher did that much more extraordinary. It's one thing to post on Facebook that you, too, would speak up in defense of a young Muslim woman. It's quite another to actually do so in front of an armed and violent man.
A Jeremy Christian white Christian extremist is accused of murdering two men who stood up to defend a pair of teenage girls being harassed for their religion on a MAX train. This is where unchecked hate can lead.
