  • The Big Government Party (GOP) of Texas
Governor Greg Abbott today announced a legislative special session that will begin on July 18th, 2017.  In his announcement, Governor Abbott identified 20 items that will be included on the special session call for Legislation to restrict or prohibit city and county regulations that he said undermine private property rights — including rules limiting what landowners can do with trees. Pre-empt all local ordinances that limit the use of mobile devices in vehicles. Prohibit local governments from using taxpayer money to fund Planned Parenthood or any abortion provider. ban abortion insurance coverage in private and government plans and require stricter reporting of complications from abortions. “The president created his election commission based on the false notion that ‘voter fraud’ is a widespread issue — it is not,” she said. “Indeed, despite bipartisan objections and a lack of authority, the president has repeatedly spread the lie that 3-5 million illegal votes were cast in the last election. Kentucky will not aid a commission that is at best a waste of taxpayer money and at worst an attempt to legitimize voter suppression efforts across the country.” Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes

  • The Grass-Roots Campaign in 2017
On Nov. 9, Americans awakened to a startling reality: In the absence of broad, enduring citizen engagement, the door is left open for darkness to creep in and gain a foothold in our democracy.Amid that awakening, I launched my improbable campaign for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District. It grew into something bigger than I could have imagined. Here in Georgia, in a district considered safe for Republicans for decades, we built a grass-roots organization powered by thousands of volunteers and hundreds of thousands of small-dollar donors.Jon Ossoff

  • The 2018 Election
The Democrats fared far better in this spring’s special congressional elections than even the most optimistic Democrat might have guessed a few months ago.Make no mistake: Despite the losses, these four special election results — in Kansas, Montana, Georgia and South Carolina — are very strong showings for the Democrats. Democrats did better in these special elections than would have been expected, based on previous election results and even supposing that the national political environment was as hostile for Republicans as it was in 2006. That’s even true in Georgia’s Sixth, where Mitt Romney and the outgoing representative (Tom Price) won by 23 points, even though President Trump won by just 1.5 points Nate Cohn the Upshot

  • Jon Ossoff Comes Up Short
Jon Ossoff, like so many losing Democratic candidates over the years, was brought down fundamentally by arguments grounded in identity politics.Instead, her campaign and its allies buried Ossoff under a pile of what basically amounts to nonsense  lumped together under the broad heading that he’s an “outsider.” stuff about Kathy Griffin, stuff about Samuel L. Jackson, stuff about his home being just over the district line, stuff about him having raised money from out of state — lumped together under the broad heading that he’s an “outsider.” Vox
