  • Do you Hear Us Georgia's 6th to Washington ?
Jon Ossoff, a Democrat making his first bid for elective office, narrowly missed winning a heavily conservative House district in Georgia outright on Wednesday, according to The Associated Press. It threw a scare into Republicans in a special congressional election that was seen as an early referendum on President Trump.Mr. Ossoff received 48.1 percent of the vote, just short of the 50 percent threshold needed to win the seat, and he will face Karen Handel, the top Republican vote-getter, in a June runoff. • Jon Ossoff For Congress
A recent poll shows that Democratic newcomerJon Ossoff continues to have a stranglehold on the rest of the field, but with 45.3 percent of support, a runoff election seems like a great possibility. And political analysts agree that wouldn’t bode well for Ossoff in the Republican-heavy district.the front-runner in the heated special election race to replace Tom Price, whom Trump elevated to be his secretary of health and human services, in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District—a seat not held by a Democrat since the 1970s—he has endured numerous attacks targeting his relative youthWith his campaign promise to "Make Trump Furious," Ossoff is riding a wave of disaffection among all Democrats, but millennials are an especially important part of his coalition Mother Jones

  • WikiLeaks 2.5
President Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered a powerful farewell speech to the nation — words so important that he’d spent a year and a half preparing them. “Ike” famously warned the nation to “guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”I have given up years of my own liberty for the risks we have taken at WikiLeaks to bring truth to the public. I take some solace in this: Joseph Pulitzer, namesake of journalism’s award for excellence, was indicted in 1909 for publishing allegedly libelous information about President Theodore Roosevelt and the financier J.P. Morgan in the Panama Canal corruption scandal. It was the truth that set him free.Julian Assange

  • Dorothy has left Kansas
Candidates in Tuesday’s 4th District congressional election made their final arguments on Monday, with Republican Ron Estes rallying with a popular GOP senator and Democrat James Thompson greeting voters in downtown Wichita.
“I’ve heard people whose opinions I respect tell me they think it would be single digits,” said Clay Barker, the executive director of the Kansas Republican Party.Barker said that the party has focused on turning out diehard Republican voters.“We always thought turnout would be 20 percent, maybe a little lower, so we focused on the voters that we had to get,” he said.Nearly 13,000 GOP voters had cast ballots in advance by mail or in person compared to about 10,900 Democrats as of Monday morning, according to data provided by the Republican Party. Another 3,400 unaffiliated voters, who could tip the balance, had also cast ballots.
“This is already a victory,” Thompson continued, because it proves that by taking the fight to working-class voters, Democrats can make even the deepest red districts competitive.“I grew up in poverty,” Thompson said. “I want to give people the same chance I had.”
