  • Election Day 2016
Three Republicans in recent history - Mitt Romney in 2012, George H.W. Bush in 1992 and Gerald Ford in 1976 - won the combined vote in Ohio's 87 other counties but lost the state because of how soundly they were defeated in Cuyahoga County.Last time around, Barack Obama defeated Romney in Cuyahoga County, 447,273 votes to 190,660 (69.4 percent to 29.6 percent). Obama's win in Cuyahoga County more than offset Romney's 90,341-vote lead in the 87 other counties.. Ohio has voted with the national winner for 13 straight elections, starting with Lyndon Johnson in 1964.Cleveland.com

  • The FBI's Election Coup
On Friday, it became clear that top Trump campaign officials knew the FBI was going to reopen its case before FBI director James Comey made the announcement a week ago in a letter to House Republicans—and that they possibly had a role in forcing the decision. That conclusion and open question arose after parsing a series of televised comments by Rudy Giuliani, the ex-federal prosecutor, ex-New York City mayor and top Trump ally in which Giuliani repeatedly bragged about leaks from disgruntled, Clinton-hating FBI agents.Steven Rosenfeld

The reports trickling out about the Greene who was arrested provide just enough fodder for people to imagine they understand the motives for the crime. A big Trump campaign sign was in the yard of his mother’s house, where he lived. He had a record of confrontations with police and people of color. Police were investigating a video posted a month ago documenting police ejecting a man from an Urbandale High School football game for causing a disturbance while waving a Confederate flag

  • Russia and the 2016 Election
FBI Director James Comey argued privately that it was too close to Election Day for the United States government to name Russia as meddling in the U.S. election and ultimately ensured that the FBI's name was not on the document that the U.S. government put out, a former bureau official tells CNBC.Department of Homeland Security and The Office of the Director of National Intelligence issued the statement on Oct. 7, saying: "The U.S. intelligence community is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of emails from U.S. persons and institutions, including from U.S. political organizations.

Stone of threatening to intimidate voters in the state’s urban, minority-heavy neighborhoods. State Democratic parties in Ohio, Nevada and Arizona have filed similar complaints. All of the suits use claims raised under the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 that are intended to thwart voter intimidation.PhillyMag.com
