  • In Defence of Clintons Wall Street Journal and Paul Krugman
He’s right that the bipartisan efforts of that era helped reduce crime enough so that policy makers can now consider criminal justice and sentencing reforms. Progressives at the time were happy to go along with Mr. Clinton’s New Democratic policies when center-right positioning seemed essential to winning the White House. But now they’re too intimidated by Black Lives Matter to tell the truth. The Black Lives Matter agitators should thank President Clinton, not excoriate him.WSJ
It’s one thing for the Sanders campaign to point to Hillary Clinton’s Wall Street connections, which are real, although the question should be whether they have distorted her positions, a case the campaign has never even tried to make. But recent attacks on Mrs. Clinton as a tool of the fossil fuel industry are just plain dishonest, and speak of a campaign that has lost its ethical moorings. But Mr. Sanders wasn’t careful at all, declaring that what he considers Mrs. Clinton’s past sins, including her support for trade agreements and her vote to authorize the Iraq war — for which she has apologized — make her totally unfit for office.

  • The Workingman Merle Haggard 1937-2016
It was also nice to meet Obama and find him very different from the media makeout. It's really almost criminal what they do with our President. There seems to be no shame or anything. They call him all kinds of names all day long, saying he's doing certain things that he's not. It's just a big old political game that I don't want to be part of. There are people spending their lives putting him down. I'm sure some of it's true and some of it's not. I was very surprised to find the man very humble and he had a nice handshake. His wife was very cordial to the guests and especially me. They made a special effort to make me feel welcome. It was not at all the way the media described him to be.What's the biggest lie out there about Obama?
He's not conceited. He's very humble about being the President of the United States, especially in comparison to some presidents we've had who come across like they don't need anybody's help. I think he knows he's in over his head. Anybody with any sense who takes that job and thinks they can handle it must be an idiot.Merle Haggard the Rollingstone

  • Campaign 2016 Reset or Not
The front-runners on both sides fell hard in Wisconsin's presidential primary Tuesday, injecting new intrigue, chaos and drama into an epic campaign. For Republicans, Donald Trump's decisive loss to Ted 'Lying Ted" Cruz elevates all the uncertainties and schisms that have dogged the party for months, and increases the odds of a history-making "open" convention. For Democrats, Hillary Clinton's loss to Bernie Sanders leaves her daunting delegate lead largely intact, but gives Sanders a solid victory in a high-turnout Midwestern battleground and feeds doubts about Clinton's ability to appeal to independents and energize voters in her own party. • The Wisconsin Primary
That’s appropriate. Wisconsin has the opportunity to upset the political calculus of both major parties and to put a Badger State stamp on the 2016 presidential race. But we have argued throughout this race that the most important race on the April 5 ballot is not a partisan one. It is the nonpartisan contest for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. This newspaper has strongly endorsed Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg for the high court. She is, to our view, a dramatically superior prospect.Capital Times Madison

  • Baseball's Opening Day 2016
Best of all, Rays ace Chris Archer was on the mound. Then the game started. And Archer — the ace of the staff, the face of the franchise — had trouble getting out of the first inning.Definitely not the start the Rays wanted. From themselves. And especially from their best pitcher. That poor start bled into a 5-3 loss. With the exception of a few — well, a few thousand — Blue Jays fans, the sellout crowd of 31,042 went home disappointed. Perhaps the 9,000 and change who go to tonight's game will be a little more entertained.Tampa Bay Times
It didn’t take long for the Blue Jays to pick up where they left off.In the first game of this new season, they exhibited many of the same characteristics that made them such a powerhouse in the second half of 2015.It started, of course, with their veteran-laden lineup — baseball’s highest-scoring by a mile last year — which took an early lead by grinding patient at-bats against one of the game’s best pitchers. Then there was Marcus Stroman, the team’s budding ace, who worked with remarkable efficBluejays,MLB,iency and elicitedSo in many ways, Sunday’s season-opening, 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays was a familiar one for the Jays. The Star
