  • The Million Man March 20 Years Later
“Twenty years ago, the death of Tamir Rice would have fallen on deaf ears and been left for the police to write a false report, not broadcast for the world to know, Michael Brown’s body would have only traumatized the community, rather than wake up the people.America, We can’t breathe,” , echoing the phrase that Eric Garner uttered while being held in a chokehold by police in July 2014 and that has been appropriated by the civil rights movement  Ms Tamika Mallory, national organiser the March.WP

  • Grace Lee Boggs dead at 100
Michelle and I were saddened to hear of the passing of author, philosopher, and activist Grace Lee Boggs. Grace dedicated her life to serving and advocating for the rights of others – from her community activism in Detroit, to her leadership in the civil rights movement, to her ideas that challenged us all to lead meaningful lives. As the child of Chinese immigrants and as a woman, Grace learned early on that the world needed changing, and she overcame barriers to do just that. She understood the power of community organizing at its core – the importance of bringing about change and getting people involved to shape their own destiny. Grace’s passion for helping others, and her work to rejuvenate communities that had fallen on hard times spanned her remarkable 100 years of life, and will continue to inspire generations to come.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Grace’s family and friends, and all those who loved her dearly. • Premium Changes for Obamcare Marketplace in 2016
Arizona is among the 23 states where CO-OP health plans were established under the ACA
Ten of the 13 carriers in Arizona’s exchange have proposed rate increases of less than ten percent for 2016.
Buying health coverage through MNsure will get a lot more expensive for many people next year.
Average rate increases for individual and family coverage will range from 14 percent to 49 percent compared to 2015, the agency said Thursday. The highest average rate increase — 49 percent — will come from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, the state's largest insurer.
Analyst Cynthia Cox with the Kaiser Family Foundation, said even after prices rise, rates in Minnesota are still below the national average."And that's because these premiums started out very very low. I know Minnesotans may not believe it after having two years in a row of double digit increases in their exchange premiums but Minnesotans still pay less than many other people in the country do," Cox said.
