People are screaming #JusticeForHinnant and it's ridiculous because justice has been served. The murderer was caught and charged. That's exactly how justice is supposed to work. If only Breonna Taylor and Aiyana Jones got the same justice. Instead, people are using the corpse of an innocent boy to push fake news and attempt to discredit a very necessary political movement.
We've all seen the videos over the course of the pandemic that show men and women behaving like petulant spoiled bratty children. Though they think themselves brave patriots, they are anything but.
I recorded this on Tuesday alongside my WAP video, hence the exact same shirt. I was going to upload it on Wednesday but then came the announcement of Kamala Harris as Biden's VP choice. So now my thoughts and concerns about Belarus are being posted today. I haven't seen much discussion about how Russia factors into events in Belarus, and that's a problem...
So in the time of a pandemic and massive unemployment, alongside numerous BLM protests and calls for defunding the police from their base, the Democrats decided a shady old man who's against Medicare For All and a former cop are the best choice...
Men: *sing and rap about their sexual activity using vivid imagery*
Society:
Women: *start doing the same thing*
Society: "UNACCEPTABLE! THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH SOCIETY!!!"

Here we are, at the end of our 'mini-series' about the ugly side of Canadian history. The purpose of these videos is to educate, and to serve as a call to action. Sadly, there are those in Canada who will only see these videos as an "attack" and that's what's bothering me today.
We've all seen those 'Meanwhile in Canada' memes that attempt to paint a rosy (and false) picture of Canada. They are almost always posted in conjunction with another image of America that paints the states in a negative light. The result is that both Canadians and foreigners begin to think that Canada is some sort of Utopian paradise where the police are nice and good and don't brutalize indigenous, black, and brown communities on the regular. The truth is that police brutality is a problem up here, and it's high time someone addressed it.
We've talked about injustices past and present committed against the Indigenous population in Canada, as well as Black Canadians. Now it's time to talk about everyone else and how they've suffered and been exploited by federal and provincial governments including up to the present day. Racism and discrimination are still very big problems in Canada, and it's high time we recognize that.
The Residential School System may have ended, but Canada continues to find new and horrifying ways to be cruel to our indigenous population.
