Bounty Board

What’s up everyone! Eric is away again (don’t worry, we miss him more), but Caleb, Ryan and Ben hold it down on this week’s episode of Bounty Board! Join the trio as they debate whether or not the game industry is becoming too dependent on player interaction, leaving games feeling hollow when played alone.

Caleb has been tied up with Breakpoint for the last few weeks with no one to join him, so he leads the charge on this question. The crew discusses games that allow co-op and solo play, but where the solo play feels lacking. The conversation takes a turn eventually, but we won’t spoil that for you here, you have to dig In and hear it yourself.

What’s up everyone! We’re doubling up on the SPECIAL GUEST thing, only this time it’s different…

Folks, on this week’s episode of Bounty Board, we are joined by the creator of Twisted Metal and God of War, David Jaffe!!! (@davidscottjaffe)

Together, your full Bounty Board crew and Jaffe discuss the changing world of social media and public opinion and its impact on game development. Should studios be sensitive to crowd input? Should they look to their fans for decision making feedback?

We also digress a lot. Like…a lot. But that’s nothing out of the ordinary right? We talk about comics, the hype train, Alabama lake houses. We talk about it all! Join us for a truly SPECIAL episode!

What’s up everyone! We have a bit of a special episode this week. A few weeks ago, Caleb and Ben had the opportunity to talk to Kevin Agwaze, Treasurer of Game Workers Unite UK. We wanted to go more in depth than we could on our Unionization episode, so we went straight to the source! Our conversation with Kevin was great, and covered anything from European laws that protect their workers, to what a game engine really is. There is a lot of value in this talk.

We want to thank Kevin and Game Workers Unite for being so willing to talk to us. It was a blast. Enjoy!

NOTE: Because Kevin is in the UK we had a few audio mishaps and drops, so please forgive some of the choppiness!

What’s up everyone! It’s that time again! Eric is away on a work trip, so this week three of the Bounty Board crew members return to discuss the lasting power of the Battle Royale game type (mode?). Fortnite is two years old. PUBG two and a half. How have those games done in their time on the market? More importantly, how are other Battle Royales doing?

Since the initial craze of the last man standing game mode, we have seen several titles tick across our feeds. Vigor, The Darwin Project, Ring of Elysium, and perhaps most notably, Apex Legends. At the same time, the “I can’t escape this” craze has seemingly died down. Join Caleb, Ben, and Ryan as they discuss whether Battle Royale is here to stay, or if it is on its way out.

Hey folks! Your favorite weekly gaming podcast is back with a new episode! Eric is out on a work trip, but don’t worry, he’ll be back soon. On this episode Caleb, Ben, and Ryan dive into the complex issue of unionizing games. A topic that has found its way into the news more than a few times this year.

With companies like Telltale closing, EA and Activision laying off hundreds, and stories of excruciating crunch at BioWare, Epic, Rockstar, and beyond, how do folks that work in the game industry protect themselves? How would a union help them do that? Would it make games too expensive to make? Is crunch really avoidable?

Tune in as we dive into these topics, and MORE!
