Bourbon with the Boys

Fiddler Wheated Bourbon rolled in from Atlanta — not Kentucky — with 45% wheat, a fiddle on the label, and a whole lot of craft distillery ambition, but the boys couldn't shake the feeling that smooth and approachable might just be code for forgettable.

Basil Hayden and Old Granddad — same mash bill, same distillery, same 80 proof, even named after the same guy — so the boys poured them side by side to answer one question: is that $25 price gap just fancy packaging or something you can actually taste?

Michter's US-1 Small Batch showed up claiming to be America's first whiskey — distilled since 1753, served to George Washington's troops, and revived from bankruptcy with a Kentucky comeback story — but at $50, the boys wanted to know if it's actually worth keeping on your shelf or just well-marketed nostalgia.

Rabbit Hole High Gold rolled in with malted rye instead of the usual grain — and at $45, it delivered cherry cordial sweetness up front before that peppery finish snuck up on you, proving Kentucky bourbon doesn't have to come from the backwoods to earn its shelf space.

Heaven's Door Ascension — Bob Dylan's Kentucky straight bourbon — surprised the boys with brown sugar, honey, and a smoothness that drinks way easier than its 92 proof, and at around $60, it might just be the celebrity bourbon that's actually worth the hype.

We poured a short‑barrel, covered the glass with a hand, and suddenly the whole room smelled like gasoline, caramel, and a busted rib—because when bourbon talks, even the elephant (Jim) can’t stay silent.”

We chase down exceptional barrels across Kentucky, Tennessee & Indiana, bottle the single‑barrel gem—and when the last drop is poured, it’s gone forever. There’s no re‑press, no second edition. It’s a one‑time whiskey experience you’ll never get a second chance to taste.

Colonel Taylor didn’t just make bourbon; he built a courtroom drama, a boat‑sale pitch, and a crawfish‑feast—everything you thought you knew about whiskey was just the opening night of a circus.

The Boys are back — live. After a year-long tech-plagued hiatus, Bourbon with the Boys returns with its first livestream episode, a brand-new studio, and a bottle of Lucky Seven “The Workhorse” Straight Bourbon. Along the way, the guys catch up, break in the new set, and put this small-batch Kentucky bourbon through its paces, from neat pours to ice cubes to full-blown chaos.

In this episode of Bourbon with the Boys, the crew sets up shop at Tom’s new space and settles in with a couple of bottles that spark plenty of conversation. They dive into Westland American Oak, an easygoing American single malt with sweet and chocolatey notes, and follow it up with the bold, high-rye punch of 1792 Small Batch. With a few laughs, some friendly debate, and a nod to the folks who helped make the night happen, it’s another laid-back hang built around good whiskey and good company.
