Fire restrictions are in effect across Box Elder County, including specific regulated zones within Brigham City, Perry and Willard, in response to hot, dry conditions and elevated fire risk. On June 28, a statewide Stage 1 fire restriction was issued by the Utah State Forester. For many years, Watkins Park in Brigham City has been the home of Box Elder Youth Football. From weekday practices to Saturday morning games, families have gathered at the park to cheer on their youngsters while teams learned what it takes to succeed. Part of the program was a storage shed built 25 years ago in the parking lot of Watkins Park to store football equipment. Spade & Hope Garden Club members recently planted trees, shrubs and perennial flowers at the new location of the Pregnancy Care Center, spending two mornings digging, planting and watering several varieties including an Autumn Blaze Maple tree, Little Devil Ninebark, Euonymus Japonicus, Potentilla, Rose of Sharon, Burning Bush, as well as planted pots with various blooming flowers. Door-to-door solicitors in Willard will now need to reapply for a license every seven days under a newly adopted rule aimed at strengthening oversight of transient and short-term sales operations. The Willard City Council approved the updated regulations during its June 12 meeting, revising the city’s existing rules to formalize license expiration and create a more structured process for revoking or denying a license.
