What do people say about you when you’re not around?
Far from just a point of curiosity, the answer to this question is your personal brand. Your reputation is everything - when you start consciously shaping perceptions of you, you open up a world of opportunity.
I spoke with Dr Gillian Brooks PhD, Assistant Professor in Strategic Marketing at King’s Business School in King’s College London. Gillian has shared her expertise giving talks around the world, and as well as academic journals, her research has been published in Forbes, The Guardian and The times to name a few.

She has practical tips you can use to improve your personal brand right now, regardless of how developed it is - whether you’re an aspiring influencer or you’ve long forgotten your facebook login.

How can you define success for yourself while you’re in training?
Whether you’re in university or on the job, training can feel like a series of hoops that you have to jump through. For a time, we live in a microcosm where grades and qualifications are the main measure of success.
My guest Dr Daniel Olaiya saw medical school differently. For him, it was a training ground ripe with opportunities to learn, and not only for exams. He has cultivated an entrepreneurial mindset which has led him to start and grow businesses, build his personal brand, and share his perspective on television.

Have you ever felt trapped in your job as doctor or dentist, or even daunted at the prospect as a student?
I sat down with Dr. Nirja Joshi to talk about how to break free of this feeling and explore the many options open to us. We often believe that our ambition and our wellbeing are at odds with each other, but we discussed how our wellbeing can actually make us better at what we do.
Dr. Nirja is living proof of this as a GP and dance teacher who shares her passion for dance to promote wellbeing at work. She is also a fellow at Health Education England, and co-creator of The WorkWell doctors, an organisation helping to improve wellbeing in healthcare teams.
Sure, she may sound superhuman but she has a really relatable story of feeling trapped in her job, and rediscovering the things that truly bring joy to her life. In this episode she shares valuable tips on how to prioritise our time and energy so that we can improve our well being and bring enjoyment back into our work.

Does healthcare have anything to do with design? And what could you possibly learn from it as a healthcare professional or student?
I had a fun chat with Jack Trotman a seasoned graphic designer, head of the UK branch of Shillington College of Graphic Design, and my teacher from my time there. Having worked in publishing, architecture, film and art to name a few industries, he knows a thing or two about the wide applications of graphic design.
We connect the dots with design and talk about the many ways it can improve the healthcare experience. From communicating better with patients and creating a brand that stands out, to improving safety and accessibility, there are endless possibilities when good design and healthcare meet.
So are you ready to talk about healthcare with a graphic designer?
