Don't confuse taking up space as a solopreneur with being a hype man for some shit you wanna sell. Taking up space as a solopreneur is to make room for others. Taking up space provides more room for you and those attracted to you. You have to get comfortable with the uncomfortable part of running a business. Monetizing what you're good at is not the same is running a business. You have to make space to learn to take a 30,000 foot view of your business. You need to understand, branding, marketing, accounting, taxes, and a whole host of things on a basic level until you can afford to hire someone to take some of it off your plate. Hiring makes room for you to get back to doing what you love. Are you making room?

Let me fess up first. I've been guilty, even recently, of doing follow for follow. Hindsight and experience as a solopreneur have taught me that there is is no real value in it. Looking through a strategic lens, you have to factor in the brands available target market (ATM). If you have a reachable available market (RAM) that is full of wasted follows then you are mess'n with your money. The folx best served by doing something like this are content creators. They become a slave to the platform they dominate on so they make their money. Having a branding and market strategy that includes content marketing and not just content creation has to weigh the cost of doing such a thing. Listen to the episode and tell me what you think.

Not every business has a brand. Or not every business gives a fuck about a brand. Martha Murray is the owner of Martha Murray Designs, an interior designing firm of one. She's been holding it down as a business of one and has no immediate plans to change. She's never thought about branding, but that didn't stop her from building a reputation. Despite ignoring social media, she's booked out for  at least 2 years. She doesn't attribute her success to brand building. It was the fuck around and find out attitude that kept her moving. And although Martha didn't have any questions for me, we had a good conversation about being a business of one and the growing pains that go with it.
