Jesus had prayed "Father forgive them for they don't know what they do." It is a request that they might come to realize their sin and who he is and be thus brought to repentance and faith. God the Father immediately began answering that prayer and one man found absolution at the cross of Jesus.

Consider Jesus the intercessor as He prays for the person who is not yet saved from their sins.

Bread of Life Radio series on the Olivet Discourse

The Lord in all His teaching only once referred to Himself as the King. It is found only in this passage. He describes that moment of His final conquest of the World. All the peoples of the earth are brought Him. He is surrounded by an army of Holy Angels. He has vanquished His foes and rescued His people and now He divides a flock of people into two classes. He is the King. He is in the moment of His return. He has set up His throne to begin His rule among the nations. He now is determining who it is that shall occupy His Kingdom and who it is that shall be taken away into everlasting judgement.

The Parable of the Talents stands as a warning and also a wonderful promise.
